Job description

We are looking for a strong Print Production & Operations manager to support our operations in Toronto, Ontario. The Print Production and Operations Manager will oversee the end-to-end print production process, ensuring the timely and cost-effective delivery of high-quality printed materials. This role requires strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of print production processes, and the ability to manage a team of production staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Production Management:

  • Oversee the entire print production process, from planning to final delivery.
  • Develop and implement production schedules to meet project deadlines.
  • Coordinate with editorial, design, and sales teams to ensure alignment on production needs.

Operations Oversight:

  • Manage daily operations of the print production department.
  • Monitor production workflows to identify and address bottlenecks.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and industry regulations.
  • Lead, mentor, and motivate the production team.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback for professional development.
  • Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with print vendors and suppliers.
  • Negotiate contracts and pricing to ensure cost-effective production.
  • Monitor vendor performance and address any issues promptly.

Budget Management:

  • Develop and manage the production budget.
  • Track and report on production costs, identifying areas for cost savings.
  • Ensure projects are completed within budget constraints.

Quality Control:

  • Implement quality control processes to ensure the highest standards of print quality.
  • Conduct regular inspections of printed materials and address any quality issues.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging technologies.

Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains.
  • Implement new technologies and methodologies to enhance production capabilities.
  • Collaborate with other departments to streamline workflows.

Health and Safety:

  • Ensure a safe working environment for all production staff.
  • Implement and enforce health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and address any identified risks.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Print Production, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in print production management, preferably within the publishing industry.
  • Strong understanding of print production processes, equipment, and technologies.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in production management software and tools.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a production environment.
