Founded in 2013, Digital Moment (formerly Kids Code Jeunesse) is a Montreal-based charity part of a global network of organizations working to mobilize communities to build a better future through digital literacy education. For over a decade, Digital Moment has been advancing digital literacy by focusing on creating impactful programs and experiences for youth and their communities on digital skills such as coding, algorithm and data literacy, and artificial intelligence.
We are currently looking for a President of the Board to help execute on our current strategy, create innovative strategies to deliver on our impact goals and theory of change. We are looking for someone who can take a leading role and provide insight, advice, governance and support to the organization in its growing success.
Role description:
Governance & Leadership
- Chair Board Meetings: Lead board meetings effectively, fostering participation, respect, collaborative decision-making and in-camera sessions;
- Strengthen Governance: Ensure the board operates within the charity’s bylaws, policies, and applicable legal standards;
- Support Board Development: Drive the recruitment, orientation, and ongoing engagement of diverse, committed board members;
- Lead Succession Planning: Oversee the development of leadership within the board, including officer roles and committee chairs.
Strategic vision & Oversight
- Guide Mission Alignment: Ensure Digital Moment’s programs and activities are consistent with its mission and strategic plan;
- Collaborate with Leadership: Partner closely with the CEO to support effective strategy implementation and troubleshoot challenges;
- Monitor Progress: Regularly evaluate Digital Moment’s impact and outcomes against key performance indicators and strategic priorities.
Fundraising & Advocacy
- Support Fundraising Efforts: Work with the board and leadership team to ensure adequate financial resources by supporting fundraising initiatives;
- Leverage Networks: Cultivate relationships with donors, partners, and funders to enhance support for the organization;
- Be an Ambassador: Act as a spokesperson for the charity at events and with external stakeholders, advocating for its mission and programs.
Evaluation
- Organizational Performance: Ensure processes are in place to assess Digital Moment’s effectiveness in meeting its mission, including annual reviews of strategic objectives, program outcomes, employee performance reviews, and financial performance;
- Board Self-Evaluation: Lead the evaluation of the board's overall performance and effectiveness;
- CEO: Oversee the annual performance review process for the CEO, ensuring clear goals and regular feedback to support professional growth;
- Feedback Integration: Identify areas for improvement based on evaluation outcomes and collaborate with the board and leadership to implement necessary changes.
Board Engagement & Effectiveness
- Promote Accountability: Foster an environment of accountability, ensuring board members understand and fulfill their individual roles;
- Build Cohesion: Encourage teamwork and shared responsibility among board members while respecting diverse viewpoints;
- Evaluate Performance: Lead periodic evaluations of the board’s collective performance and effectiveness in supporting Digital Moment.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Proven leadership experience, ideally within a nonprofit or charitable organization;
- Strong knowledge of governance, fundraising, and the unique challenges faced by charitable organizations;
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to inspire others and rally support for Digital Moment’s mission;
- Demonstrated ability to act as a public advocate for Digital Moment, leveraging personal and professional networks;
- Passion for Digital Moment’s mission, with a commitment to furthering its impact;
- Proficiency in French and English (both written and oral) is required;
- Commitment of time, presence at meetings and taking action to support the work of Digital Moment ~ 5-7 hours monthly.
Term of office: The Board President typically serves a term of 2 years and may be eligible for reappointment as outlined in the charity’s bylaws.
