Portfolio Lead, Finance (Accounts Payable & Payroll)

In this permanent full-time role as Portfolio Lead, Finance, you will oversee various aspects of the accounting operations within your assigned portfolio, including, but not limited to, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Fixed Assets. You will also ensure proper documentation of procedures and maintain transparency of funds for relevant stakeholders.

Beyond daily operations, you will contribute to enhancing the effectiveness of our current systems, and support the identification, review, and implementation of best accounting practices. This position reports to the Controller.

The day to day:

  • Responsible for the oversight of the collection, documentation, and processing of all daily accounting entries for the area(s) assigned in accordance with established standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Confirms the accurate processing of source documents and verifies the accuracy of system reporting prior to finalizing data input and reviews output for accuracy.
  • Oversees the completion of month-end and other cyclical accounting requirements, in accordance with established schedules, supporting teams where needed.
  • Responds to escalated inquiries and acts to clear, discharge or settle questions and concerns.
  • Completes bank account reconciliations.
  • Assists with payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable reviews and tasks.
  • Assists with donation revenue recording, follow-up, and adjustments.
  • Provides support for various projects (i.e., campaigns, GL redesign, products, strategic initiatives, etc.).
  • Supports monthly data reconciliation processes by validating credit card payments by running Moneris reports.
  • Supports the annual audit process by compiling and providing financial information to support auditor requests.
  • Maintains meticulous records of invoices, bills, and disbursements within both functions (physical and electronic), ensuring a strong audit trail for review as required.
  • Provides support to Accounts Payable when required by processing invoices in SAGE.
  • Responsible for ensuring grant reporting and deliverables are completed, collaborating with cross-functional teams as necessary.
  • Develops and maintains accurate supporting documentation in the regular operations of United Way and their specific areas of responsibility.
  • Contributes to and develops various reports per accounting schedule or as may be required or assigned. Oversees an effective planning and analysis capability that provides appropriate analytical tools to establish goals and measure performance of the organization's portfolio of programs & products.
  • Works with Finance leadership to establish and maintain a model for organizational cash flows, and report results regularly and as requested.
  • Leads scenario modeling efforts for the development and growth of key initiatives.
  • Performs analytical review and trend analysis to gain insight into the accuracy and effectiveness of the reporting and closing process.
About you:

This position allows you to apply your strong organizational, accurate, high attention to detail, analytical, report preparation and account reconciliation skills. You have hands-on experience with financial management and donations software and proven work experience in core functions of accounting.

You have a can-do attitude, are outcomes-driven, and approach situations with a customer focus. Thinking creatively, staying organized, and building relationships is how you thrive. You are familiar with advanced formulas in MS Excel (Pivot tables, LOOKUP functions, macros, etc.). You love operating in a digital environment and are proficient with MS Office (we use Office 365 - MS Teams, SharePoint), and enjoy learning and using new technology.

You have a post-secondary degree in finance or accounting, plus a minimum of four (4) to six (6) years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

  • The starting salary range for this role is $61,200 - $70,000
*(Starting salary based on experience and budgetary considerations)
