The Strategic Management Branch of the Ministry of Social Services is seeking a talented, analytical, self-motivated individual to fill the position of Policy Analyst.

As a member of the Policy and Planning Unit, you will support the ministry’s legislative services work, including assisting colleagues across the ministry to develop and amend various Cabinet and ministry documents, including Orders in Council, Minister’s Orders, regulations, and legislation. You will be responsible for coordinating related internal and external approval processes for ministry Cabinet and legislative documents. You will liaise with ministry colleagues, the Deputy Minister’s Office, and other ministries on issues and inquiries pertaining to Cabinet documents, timelines, and procedures.

The position is responsible for information management, including the coordination of briefing notes and correspondence. This work often involves working under tight timelines and collecting and distilling information from a variety of sources.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively and cooperatively with internal and external stakeholders to develop and update ministry corporate policies. Responsibilities will include conducting analysis, preparing briefing notes/decision items, and drafting policy and other correspondence individually or as part of a team.

The position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills as collaboration with ministry colleagues, other governments, agencies, and clients is essential. Attention to detail is critical. The ideal candidate must be a proactive team player, able to both lead and collaborate, with a reputation for integrity and a focus on service excellence and innovation in their work. Sound professional judgment and discretion will also be required to succeed in this role.

Typically, the knowledge and abilities required for this position would be obtained through the completion of an undergraduate degree in the Social Sciences or a related discipline with related experience.
