The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) has 1 (one) exciting fixed-term opportunity up to March 31, 2026 within the Corporate Affairs & Finance branch at the CATSA HQ in Ottawa.

Summary of responsibilities:

The Policy Advisor is responsible for leading and supporting the development and delivery of corporate planning and reporting activities, including drafting corporate documents, coordinating organization-wide initiatives, and supporting Government-led initiatives such as the Accessible Canada Act and Gender-based Analysis Plus (GBA Plus). The incumbent may also be required from time to time to support the team’s other business lines such as providing support to senior management in preparation for parliamentary appearances, responding to parliamentary questions, and providing assistance to the enterprise risk management and corporate insurance files. The Policy Advisor performs all other duties and responsibilities related to the position as required.

What you need to succeed

To qualify for the position, you must have:

  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a specialization in Public Administration, Business Administration, Law, Social Sciences, Political Science, or another specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience working in an environment where writing and preparing reports, briefing notes, presentations, and strategic plans is the primary responsibility.
  • Experience in providing recommendations on operational requirements based on policy decisions.
  • Experience working in an advisory capacity.
  • Experience liaising with various stakeholders and reporting to senior management (Directors and Vice-Presidents).
  • Experience researching, collecting, and synthesizing substantive volumes of information into a concise and cohesive summary.

Valuable skills include:

  • Bilingual (French and English) preferred.
  • Knowledge of CATSA's mandate and priorities, as well as an awareness of relevant legislation impacting CATSA.
  • Knowledge of the inner workings of government and the role of central agencies.
  • Knowledge of the aviation industry and the related regulatory and security issues.
  • Understanding of financial documents and terminology.
  • Knowledge of risk management concepts and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of performance measurement and environmental scanning practices and principles.

Specific work requirements:

  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
