Department Overview:
Global Technology Services (GTS) is one of the foundational divisions of the TMX Group, that empowers internal TMX business lines for their technology needs, operations and digital innovation. GTS as a client centric organization focuses on building technology capabilities, enabling our clients with the best technology solutions and providing effective technology financial and resource management processes. The cost effective operation is a key attribute of the GTS execution. GTS is responsible for delivery of all technology initiatives and services across TMX.
Role Summary:
The Kubernetes Platform Engineer is responsible for management and support of various container technologies in the infrastructure engineering team. The incumbent will design, build and maintain solutions based on business requirements and evaluation of information technology trends and practices.
The engineer will require a broad skill set with excellent problem solving and analytical skills in addition to a strong programmatic, “Infrastructure as Code”, approach to systems and container management.
Key Accountabilities:
- Help manage various different Kubernetes distributions (Openshift, Rancher, Amazon EKS and Fargate)
- Design, build and run elastic, cost-effective, resilient, robust, and secure architectures using modern approaches like service-mesh and loosely coupled design
- Maintain, configure and monitor containers using Infrastructure as Code principles in Development, Test, and Live environments
- Work with other Architects on Security, Data protection, and Failover Failback strategies
- Implement Continuous Integration, Delivery, and Deployment using different CI/CD tools by container registries
- Provide rotational on-call support outside of regular business hours
- Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
- Identify and recommend emerging technologies as they relate to team objectives
- Demonstrates strong organizational and priority setting skills
- Be an inspiring leader who is capable of initiating and leading change
Must Have(s)
- A university degree or relevant job experience in computer science or engineering
- Hands on experience with RedHat OpenShift, Rancher, Tanzu, or other enterprise/Cloud Kubernetes platforms
- Experience with application development using containers, leveraging API and CI/CD tooling (Gitlab, Jenkins, Tekton, etc)
- 5+ years of experience in an operational role e.g., Systems Admin, DevOps Engineer, SRE where you supported business apps in a production environment that was managed through a change management process.
- 3+ years of experience developing, deploying and supporting production applications with an active user base;
- Automation experience with Terraform, Ansible, or similar tools
- Experience with Kubernetes management, backup and recovery, and deployment tools (i.e., Kasten, Portworx, Argo, etc.)
- Experience with Source Code management (SCM) Tools such as Git/Subversion
- Excellent scripting skills (Perl/Python/Bash)
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with strong written and verbal communication skills
Nice to Have(s):
- Experience with platform observability and logging tools (i.e. Splunk, Dynatrace, Datadog, AppDynamics, Grafana, etc.)
- Public cloud infrastructure experience, ideally AWS or GCP
- Solid understanding of general networking principles and common protocols
- Experience with IT management tools such as ServiceNow
