JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Planning Officer.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Mtnce/Production, this position is responsible for providing overall and detailed plans to assist in coordinating the work of the station units and associated internal and external groups for the efficient and economic commissioning, operation and maintenance of hydro generating stations. Participate in training programs as required and supervise staff assisting in the above.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Provide and/or coordinate the provision of detailed schedules to the station staff and management for the execution of all work during and in the preparation of all or any the following: (a) commissioning (b) operating (c) unanticipated shutdowns (d) prearranged shutdowns (e) other activities as required.
  2. Discuss problems with appropriate personnel to establish requirements, target dates and priorities. Arrange for the gathering and collecting of information on such programs, such as proposed station improvements, unresolved problems, deficiency reports and the like. Assess all information received in the light of station targets and based on appreciation of the technical problems associated with the deficiencies, establish the compatibility of the programs and priorities.
  3. Categorize and establish priorities on items in each program, such as grouping deficiency reports into unanticipated outages, operating, planned outages, etc., and listing them in order of priority.
  4. Schedule the work program by considering priorities, availability of material, staff and the like. Review work to be done by outside agencies and other divisions. Contact such groups to discuss requirements and to ensure their work programs tie in smoothly with that of the station.
  5. Keep Supervisor informed of progress obtaining advice and guidance on priorities and unusual difficulties encountered. Submit finalized plans to the Supervisor and/or responsible unit head for review and approval. Assist in expediting plans, designs, materials and manpower, as considered necessary, to ensure that planning targets are met. Review station programs to ensure the manpower required to accomplish manpower is required.
  6. Review and analyze various planning techniques presently in use, internally and externally, for adoption as necessary, for use in the station and develop new techniques for specific tests.
  7. Supervise staff in the execution of planning duties. Plan, organize and schedule the work of the staff. Assign work with instructions and direction as deemed necessary. Provide advice and guidance during work progress, and check work as considered necessary upon completion. Initiate changes to existing or propose new work methods and procedures to improve efficiency.
  8. Represent the station at meetings relating to work programming and planning as requested by Supervisor. Participate in technical discussions, expressing the station's views on matters pertinent to work programming and planning. Advise Supervisor of outcome of meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Minimum of 6 years of related working experience to assess, coordinate and recommend plans for the programming of the commissioning, operation and maintenance of Hydroelectric generating stations.
  2. Previous Technical experience in Hydro generating station with operating and/or supervisory experience and familiarity with operating procedures, problems, contacts, and maintenance requirements would be considered an asset.
  3. This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of 4 years of University training in mechanical, electrical, physics or a related field.
  4. Alternate Education: High school diploma plus 3 years' further concentrated study in Engineering, Mechanical Technology, Electrical and Maintenance may be considered.
  5. Previous experience in plant maintenance software such as AS9, SAP would be considered an asset.
