Description Highlights of the Job:

We are hiring a Full Time Permanent Planning Engineer, Water Treatment Plants (WTP) working out of Edmonton, AB. Open to Internal EPCOR employees and External candidates. The Engineer, Water Plants and Reservoirs Planning is accountable for providing engineering and project management expertise to execute planning initiatives and activities related to the Edmonton WTPs and Reservoirs. This position provides engineering support to ensure the necessary strategic plans and engineering work be accomplished to develop and update short and long term plans, capital and performance-based rates planning and integrated resource planning.

What You’d Be Responsible For:

  1. Supporting the management and execution of the planning for the Edmonton WTPs and Reservoirs:
    1. Leading planning activities to support integrated resource planning, long term capital planning and performance-based rates submissions.
    2. Developing, implementing and reviewing planning documents, technical memos, performance-based rate documents and business cases, conceptual designs and design basis memorandums.
    3. Helping maintain optimum and balanced asset and capital plans for the Edmonton WTPs and Reservoirs.
    4. Assisting with the preparation of integrated resource planning revisions.
    5. Assisting with preparation and delivery of planning updates to internal and external stakeholders.
  2. Supporting the execution of external engineering planning studies and project development:
    1. Leading procurement of external consulting services.
    2. Managing consultant relationships.
    3. Responding to information requests in a timely manner.
    4. Reviewing technical work completed by others and support finalization of deliverables.
  3. Supporting planning related stakeholder engagement activities for Edmonton WTPs and Reservoirs:
    1. Facilitating discussions with external companies and organizations seeking partnerships with EPCOR, which may include information exchange, data analysis, evaluation of technical and financial feasibility, etc.
    2. Assisting the Public & Government Affairs group with conducting engagement activities and drafting public communication for planning, operational and capital activities.
  4. Supporting capital planning and projects:
    1. Effectively handing over projects after completion of planning and project development.
    2. Supporting activities related to performance validation as required to further inform future planning activities.
    3. Supporting initiatives related to process improvement and environment, social and governance performance.
  5. Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders and participating on cross-functional activities, initiatives and committees including:
    1. Engineering and Technical Services.
    2. Water Treatment and Wastewater Treatment Plants.
    3. Water Distribution and Transmission and Wastewater Collection.
    4. Drainage.
    5. Projects Management.
    6. Regulatory.
    7. Customer Operations.
    8. Corporate Sustainability.

What’s Required to be Successful:

  1. Bachelors degree in Engineering - Civil/Environmental Engineering or Chemical Engineering is preferred.
  2. Master's degree or further training in Environmental Engineering will be considered an asset.
  3. Must be registered as Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the province of Alberta.
  4. 5 years of experience in process design, asset management and project management experience.
  5. 5 years of experience in working in an operational plant environment will be considered an asset.
  6. Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License.

A requirement of working for EPCOR is that you are at least 18 years of age, successfully attained a high school diploma (GED, or equivalent level of secondary education) and legally entitled to work in Canada. (A copy of a valid work permit may be required.)

Some EPCOR positions require an enhanced level of background assessment, which is dictated by law. These positions require advanced criminal record checks that must also be conducted from time to time after commencement of employment.
A technical/practical assessment may be administered during the selection process and this exercise will be used as a part of the selection criterion.
To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing may be required.
