Role description:

Our Toronto office, located at Yonge St. and St. Clair Ave., is looking for an Urban Planning Intern from a Masters of Urban and Regional Planning program to join our dynamic Real Estate, Economics + Planning Group (REEP) this Summer.

The REEP Group, working closely with the firm’s other disciplines, are dedicated to navigating the complex relationship between land use planning, economics, and real estate development. Our five main practices are:

  1. Land Use Planning and Policy Analysis – Land needs assessments, master planning, site planning, regional and municipal planning and policy, official plan and zoning by-law amendments, economic development strategies, community improvement plans, development approvals and GIS.
  2. Real Estate Development Strategies – market analysis, best practice research, development feasibility, highest and best use, economic impact assessments, business plans and proposal calls for development partnerships and land disposition.
  3. Financial Feasibility – development/construction cost-benefit analysis and the preparation of financial pro forma and business plans.
  4. Due Diligence – due diligence support in the fields of regional planning and land economics for institutional, commercial and residential real estate development proposals.
  5. Public Finance – development charges, user fees, funding sources, fiscal impact studies, incentives and partnerships.

Role accountabilities:

  • Research, compile and analyze data on factors affecting land use including market information.
  • Assist in the report writing and data interpretation for clients.
  • Assist in the preparation of graphics and presentations which clearly and succinctly articulate findings and information.
  • Review, interpret and summarize appropriate municipal and provincial policies.
  • Assist planners with the preparation of responses to private- and public-sector proposals.
  • Perform site visits.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in the Masters of Urban and Regional Planning program.
  • Numeracy skills and familiarity with the GTA market is an asset.
  • Excellent analytical and proven organization skills; must be able to meet deadlines under pressure with minimum supervision.
  • Good written and verbal communication, interpersonal and team skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, experience in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
  • Valid Driver’s License.

The salary range for this position is $20-30/hour. The base salary represents Arcadis’ hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
