DUTIES:
Reporting to the Deputy City Planner (Growth), this position will be responsible for the planning, design, and construction of open spaces such as parks, plazas, trail systems, and streetscapes. Responsibilities include facilitating the implementation of Windsor’s Community Strategic Plan and Official Plan policies, especially in urban design, public art, and signage. The role involves developing guidelines and standards for community appearance, participating in public consultations, investigating strategic matters related to buildings and infrastructure, administering community design projects, preparing design concepts for municipal capital projects, researching urban design trends, and providing expert evidence before tribunals. Occupational Health & Safety duties will also be performed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or Urban Design with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience; OR a University degree with a minimum of four (4) years of experience; OR a Post Secondary College diploma with a minimum of six (6) years of experience.
- Current membership or completion of two (2) years of related experience towards membership as a Registered Professional Planner with OPPI, CIP, OAA, or OALA.
- Ability to travel to off-site locations as required, with a valid driver's license if traveling by vehicle.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Planning Act, development review process, and provincial policy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, CAD software, Land-based information systems, and Adobe InDesign.
- Excellent communication, presentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to solve problems and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Proven ability to work in a team environment.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related hazards.
- Post-Graduate degree in relevant fields and professional membership would be considered an asset.
- Portfolio of professional work required for interview.
