The University of Lethbridge is currently seeking applications for a Photographer & Videographer. This is a full-time, in-person, continuing position on the Lethbridge Campus to start as soon as possible.

The Communications, Marketing and Government Relations (CMGR) team tells the University’s story, builds the University’s brand, and strengthens the institution’s relationship with diverse audiences and stakeholders internally, locally, provincially, nationally and internationally.

Reporting to the Director of Communications and working closely with members of the CMGR team, the Photographer & Videographer coordinates and develops photo and video content that is aligned with the institutional marketing and communications plan and advances the University’s brand and public image.

This position requires a creative and compelling storyteller who can bring the University’s brand to life visually through captivating photos and video. Working with the University community, this position works on projects that feature ULethbridge students, employees, alumni, donors, friends and partners, as well as institutional announcements, initiatives, and specified events.

The Photographer & Videographer is a story seeker, self-starter, and collaborator with a proven ability to excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with competing deadlines. Additionally, the individual will have a strong understanding of digital channels, social media, and technical expertise; excellent portrait photography skills; proven project management and organizational abilities; and keen attention to detail. The ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders is essential.

Summary of key job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Digital Content Creation: Develop digital content (photos and videos) that motivates diverse audiences to apply, attend, participate and give, and ultimately become ambassadors who help share the University of Lethbridge’s story and advance its brand and reputation.
  • Production of original digital content includes: story planning, video shooting, composition, lighting, interviewing, editing, audio engineering, colour correction, and final story production tailored for the communication channel.
  • Project Coordination: Conceptualize original creative content, build out video/photo production project plan, manage production schedule to ensure efficient production delivery and the ultimate delivery of content that engages diverse audiences and motivates action.
  • Supervision/Training: Supervise, mentor and train Work2Learn student positions; provide technical guidance to the CMGR team.
  • Develop and advise on digital content and social media strategies to reach target audience(s), increase engagement and achieve goals.
  • Asset Management: Manage department's photography/video equipment, digital assets and the University’s YouTube channel.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in New Media, Communications, or related field.
  • Three to five years professional experience in photography and video industry.
  • Advanced knowledge of the photography and videography field and experience in various tools and technology to produce the highest quality digital content.
  • Expert in Adobe Premiere, Adobe CC Suite (Premier Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.).
  • Superior technical photography, editing, and audio skills: The ability to shoot visually appealing video quickly under tight time constraints. An excellent understanding of composition, frame rates, white balance and exposure. Strong ability to edit video quickly, understand how to convert large video files to proxies, colour grade and some motion graphic knowledge.
  • Ability to be a positive contributing member of the team and bring your ideas forward, collaborating closely with the design team, while advancing the University’s brand.
  • Basic Drone Operators License is considered an asset.
  • Ability to meet physical demands such as standing for extended periods, carrying, and setting up heavy equipment (up to 50 pounds), travel across campus for various projects.
  • Some early morning and evening work, as well as travel are required.
  • A valid unrestricted Class 5 Driver’s License with no more than 6 demerits and submission of a motor vehicle record (driver abstract) dated within 3 months of the posting close is required.

Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE): $4,772.00 - $5,403.00 monthly

Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE): $4,772.00 - $6,034.00 monthly (AUPE - Grade 11)
