Personal Support Worker/Nursing Student

Calling all Nursing Students in Thunder Bay!

Are you looking for summer employment? Are you hoping to gain hands-on experience in your field? If you have completed your first year of your Nursing degree (RPN or RN), you qualify for this role!

Southbridge is looking to hire Nursing Students to work as PSWs over the summer break, where you will gain vital hands-on experience in our Long Term Care Homes.

Responsibilities

1. Assists in providing direct care for residents; assists with ambulation, feeding, bathing, and grooming.
2. Encourages participation in activity programs by assisting residents to and from activities.
3. Assists with meal service and nourishment delivery to residents and provides feeding assistance as required.
4. Provides emotional and social support to residents/families including palliative care.
5. Adheres to established departmental policies and procedures regarding documentation, quality assurance, fire, safety, environment, and infection control.
6. Consults with and informs supervisor of unit activities, needs, and matters related to resident care.
7. Participates in care conferences and documentation related to resident care plans.

1. Completed a PSW Program that meets the appropriate standards established by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, the National Association of Career Colleges, or the Ontario Community Support Association and must be a minimum of 600 hours in duration (including class time and practical experience time).
2. Experience in long-term care is an asset.
3. Knowledge and experience in care planning systems and documentation required.
4. Mentally and physically able to perform duties as assigned.
5. Ability to communicate positively with other staff, residents, and families.
6. Demonstrates empathy, concern, and interest in providing quality care and service to residents.
7. Demonstrates organizational skills and ability to complete assignments in a timely fashion.
8. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
9. Ability to provide resident care in accordance with applicable legislation, job routines, nursing care plans, ability to read and write English, and understand verbal and written instructions in English.
