Permanent, Full-Time Financial Manager

The Children’s Therapy and Family Resource Centre (CTFRC) has a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours/week) Financial Manager position available in Kamloops.

Job Summary: Under the general supervision of the Executive Director, the Financial Manager will be responsible for ensuring the financial health and sustainability of this non-profit organization.

This position requires a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with strong leadership abilities and a deep understanding of non-profit financial management. The Financial Manager will oversee all financial activities, including budgeting, forecasting, accounting, compliance, and reporting. They will work closely with the Executive Director and other team members to provide strategic financial guidance and ensure the organization’s resources are used effectively to achieve its mission. Our centre is proudly CARF Accredited, with the Financial Manager completing all financial aspects of the accreditation process every 3 years.

Responsibilities:

  • Financial Planning & Analysis: Develop and manage the organization’s annual budget in collaboration with the Executive Director and program managers.
  • Full Cycle Accounting: Oversee all aspects of full cycle accounting, including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger maintenance, bank reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Fund Accounting: Manage and track multiple funding streams, ensuring accurate allocation of expenses and compliance with funder requirements. Prepare detailed financial reports and claims for funders, and ensure timely invoicing and payment receipt.
  • Internal Controls & Compliance: Establish, monitor, and enhance internal controls, financial policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with non-profit accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and present monthly financial statements, quarterly reports for funders, and ad hoc reports for the Executive Director and Board of Directors. Ensure team leads have up-to-date financial information for effective budget management.
  • Audit & Tax Compliance: Lead the preparation for annual audits, working closely with external auditors. Ensure compliance with all tax filings and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Payroll Management: Process payroll and ensure accurate and timely payment of wages and benefits. Review and approve timesheets and employee expense reports.
  • Cash Flow Management: Monitor the organization’s cash flow to ensure sufficient liquidity to meet operational needs. Implement strategies to optimize cash flow and manage reserves.
  • Strategic Financial Guidance: Provide financial insights and strategic advice to the Executive Director and Board of Directors, supporting long-term planning and decision-making.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor finance team members, fostering a collaborative, high-performance work environment. Provide training and support to staff on financial policies.
  • Risk Management: Identify financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. Ensure the organization has adequate insurance coverage and financial safeguards in place.
  • Follow and be knowledgeable about our centre’s Collective Agreement (Health Science Professionals) for information and updates regarding benefits, wages, etc.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. CPA designation is an asset.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of progressive financial management experience, with a strong background in non-profit and fund accounting. Experience managing a similar-sized budget and multiple funding sources is essential.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. Sage 50 Pro) and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel. Familiarity with financial forecasting and fund accounting principles.
  • Analytical Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities with a strategic mindset. Ability to analyze complex financial data and present actionable insights to senior leadership.
  • Compliance Knowledge: Thorough understanding of non-profit financial regulations, audit processes, and tax requirements.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and concise financial reports.
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment.

Additional Skills & Abilities:

  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Must possess valid driver’s license and provide own transportation.
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
  • Knowledge of general office procedures.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to type at 60 wpm.

Wage Range: $63,000-$91,000 per year.
