We are seeking a talented individual to join our Pension Administration team at Mercer as a Pension Administration - Senior Specialist. This role will be based in Montreal or Quebec City. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

You will work in a team environment as part of Mercer’s pension administration Client Services and will be part of a team of consultants, analysts, and administrators that provide high-quality administration service to a portfolio of clients, demonstrating outstanding and timely customer service in all dealings with client contacts.

We will count on you to:

  1. Work independently and as a member of a team with minimal supervision on assigned projects to generate accurate and efficient solutions.
  2. Be the main contact for clients and respond to questions and queries.
  3. Set priorities and coordinate projects taking into account established deadlines.
  4. Adapt to evolving standards, procedures, and tools.
  5. Diagnose system problems and respond to testing feedback.
  6. Analyze pension plan documents to complete or provide final peer review of complex pension calculations performed by others, ensuring accuracy against plan documents for defined benefit pension plans. Use this knowledge to develop or update systems, calculators, and databases, and for testing of systems and tools.
  7. Maintain expert knowledge of relevant pension-related legislation in all provincial jurisdictions.
  8. Provide peer review on all year-end processes – i.e., pension adjustments, pension adjustment reversals, membership reconciliations, fund reconciliations, annual statements, annual information returns, etc.
  9. Maintain expert knowledge of relevant pension-related provisions in the Income Tax Act (ITA).
  10. Identify and resolve issues that affect accuracy. Suggest process improvements to management.
  11. Provide guidance and training to client teams and serve as a subject matter expert.
  12. Analyze legislative and regulatory summaries and ensure compliance for all client work. Adhere to all established standards.
  13. Act in accordance with Mercer Professional Standards and follow the peer review/checking process.
  14. Develop and maintain Excel-based pension administration calculation tools.

What you need to have:

  1. At least 8 years of prior experience working with defined benefit pension plans and related provincial legislation.
  2. Demonstrate the following competencies: strong analytical and organizational skills, thoroughness, attention to detail, excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to work in teams, self-reliance, resourcefulness.
  3. In accordance with Bill 96, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in both English and French, as this role requires effective communication with our bilingual clientele.
  4. Excellent communication, organization, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  5. Proficient with MS-Office software programs and expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  6. Bachelor's degree in a related field (actuarial sciences, mathematics, administration, or finance) or equivalent experience.
  7. Basic understanding of actuarial principles is an asset.
