Job Summary:

The RAAM Clinic Peer Support Worker helps support different pathways to recovery and harm reduction for patients who use substances. Integral to the RAAM team, the Peer Support Worker helps to empower individuals to achieve their hopes, dreams, and goals, and connect with them in a manner unique to having shared experiences. A Peer Support Worker has lived through similar experiences and is trained to support others. Peer support persons are aware of community resources and can connect clients to services that will help them on their journey of wellness.

Qualifications:

  1. Completion of or willing to complete Peer Support Canada’s RAAM Peer Support Worker Certification Level 1 considered a strong asset.
  2. Two years related experience (volunteering or paid), preferably in peer support working with individuals with substance use.
  3. Lived experience of a substance use concern.
  4. Able to interact comfortably with humans who are active in their addictions and maintain professional boundaries while engaging with empathy and compassion.
  5. A satisfactory vulnerable sector and criminal record clearance is required.
  6. Familiarity with First Nations culture and local services and resources.
  7. Basic level computer skills.
  8. Strong advocate for harm reduction and trauma-informed care.
  9. Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  10. Excellent interpersonal relations and ability to engage positively with patients and team members.

Job Duties:

  1. Welcome patients to the clinic and assist with providing a safe and supportive environment.
  2. Implement strategies to improve patient engagement, cultural safety, trauma informed practice. Help decrease addictions-related stigma, social isolation, and barriers to accessing care.
  3. Share recovery pathways and offer empathy, validation, and hope— key determinants of recovery.
  4. Assist multi-disciplinary team with ongoing evaluation of services, and participate in discussions regarding plans, strategies, and next steps for patients.
  5. Assist patients with understanding clinic practices by reviewing consent, confidentiality, and safety procedures.
  6. Assistance with identifying basic needs and navigating local resources.
  7. Distribution of snacks, activities, personal hygiene and harm reduction supplies.
  8. Distributing client surveys and collecting feedback.
  9. Introducing other clinic team members, wayfinding, transportation.

Adhere to organizational policies and procedures.

Other duties as necessary.
