PBS & Scheduling Contract Specialist

The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the largest airline pilot union in the world and the largest non-governmental aviation safety organization in the world, seeks a PBS & Scheduling Contract Specialist for our office in Toronto, Ontario, located in Mississauga. ALPA represents more than 79,000 pilots at 42 airlines in Canada and the United States. Under general supervision and within the limitations of Association policy, the PBS & Scheduling Contract Specialist works closely with MEC officers, representatives, committee volunteers, and staff colleagues to assist the Air Canada pilot group with Preferential Bidding System (PBS) and crew scheduling concerns; compliance with the collective agreement; and overall support, including assisting the PBS and Scheduling Committees in the monthly PBS and scheduling process and responding to queries via e-mail and, when the matter is immediate and time-sensitive, direct contact with the pilot. The primary role of this position is to support the PBS Committee; however, they may also provide backup support to the Scheduling Committee when required.

Travel: 5 – 15%.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Secondary School Diploma (SSD) or Diplôme d'Études Secondaires (DES) required; Bachelor’s degree in relevant area or related field, from an accredited college or university preferred; or, the equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
  • Knowledge of pilot scheduling and work rules preferred.
  • Understanding of current Air Canada and/or other Canadian pilot collective agreement(s) and airline practices preferred.
  • Five (5) or more years of equivalent aviation experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) preferred.
  • Labor law experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Preferential Bidding Systems or other electronic monthly bidding systems preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, for effective interaction with internal staff, external contacts, and pilots.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Able to work independently and to be proactive in identifying and responding to issues and problems.
  • Software: Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel required; SharePoint preferred.
