WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

The Human Resources department provides HR leadership across BCI, in direct support of investment return objectives and delivering on BCI’s mandate. The HR department adds value as a strategic business partner, an enabler of change when mandates shift, and serves as a trusted advisor to the CEO/CIO, executive, and the board on all people matters.

HR supports every person at BCI and serves as a trusted partner to all departments on strategic initiatives and day-to-day HR matters. By focusing on our talent, we ensure the organization has the right people with the right skills supporting and delivering on investment strategies for the benefit of our clients.

The Total Rewards Center of Excellence provides strategic oversight and tactical administration of compensation, benefits, global mobility, wellness and payroll. Total Rewards works closely with other HR functions: Business Partnership and Talent Acquisition to provide the compensation, benefit and global mobility expertise that supports employee attraction and retention; Talent Management to deliver the annual year-end performance and compensation review cycle; and the HR Data and Technology team to provide data for annual compensation survey requests.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Working as a member of the Total Rewards COE, and reporting to the Manager, Payroll, this position is a specialist role that completes a wide range of confidential administrative functions and projects in support of payroll services and broader Total Rewards initiatives. The Payroll Technician’s position deals with complex, sensitive information requiring well-rounded knowledge and expertise of payroll functions and services.

WHAT YOU BRING

  1. Current enrolment in, willingness to enroll in, or completion of the Canadian Payroll Association’s Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification
  2. Experience with payroll systems; Workday is preferred
  3. Ability to multi-task and seamlessly change priorities when required
  4. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities and deadlines of multiple competing tasks within a team environment
  5. Strong excel skills with detailed reporting capabilities including pivot tables and lookup functions
  6. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, written and verbal; must enjoy working as part of a team
  7. A high working standard and the ability to ensure all work performed is of high quality
  8. Ability to analyze problems and identify solutions
  9. Ability to discreetly and tactfully deal with sensitive information

WHAT YOU GET TO DO

  1. Processes confidential payroll for our Canadian offices using Workday
  2. Responsible for benefit and leave transactions that impact payroll
  3. Performs various reconciliations and other control procedures involving payroll, payroll tax and pension matters
  4. Assists in the preparation of filings and support documents relating to income tax, CPP, EI, pension, health insurance, WCB and other external bodies relevant to payroll matters
  5. Develops, implements and maintains payroll-related policies and procedures on an ongoing basis and documents own position’s processes and procedures
  6. Conducts new hire benefit orientation for Canadian employees
  7. Responds to queries regarding employment policies, benefit provisions, vacation utilization and general employment related topics for all of BCI’s offices, both foreign and domestic
  8. Provides administrative support to Total Rewards team including invoicing
  9. Works with relocation provider to connect employees and manages issues throughout the employee relocation experience
  10. Participates in and provides support to the broader Total Rewards team

Work from our downtown Victoria office.

SALARY RANGE

BCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan and paid time off.

The annualized base salary range for this Victoria-based role is CAD $66,000 to $77,000.

The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.

We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we compete for talent and with consideration to internal equity and job structure. We aim for actual pay to be around the median of the market for target or expected levels of performance, and around the upper quartile of the market for excellent performance.

Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience and expertise.
