Payroll Specialist

We are looking for a full-time Payroll Specialist who will perform a variety of functions relating to the effective administration of payroll at Hull Services. This position is based on a 37.5 hour work week, Monday to Friday with a scheduled lunch break.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Code Salaried and Relief timesheets and post entries into the payroll system.
  • Process ad-hoc payroll entries as needed (e.g., tickets, passes, etc.).
  • Set up and ensure accurate deductions.
  • Calculate staff timesheets, record vacation and sick time taken, and distribute monthly reports to supervisors.
  • File payroll documents and maintain employee records.
  • Process and distribute payroll attendance reports.
  • Support with managing Garnishments.
  • Issue Records of employment.
  • Set up and manage employer matching group plans such as RRSP, TFSA, and Savings plans.
  • Assist with processing semi-monthly pay accurately and on time, including updating and uploading payroll data import files.
  • Participate in reading payroll batches to ensure accuracy.
  • Work with People and Culture to ensure accurate and timely processing of new hires, employee departures and other employee status changes.
  • Perform other payroll/benefits related tasks as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field would be an asset.
  • Some exposure to payroll and payroll software is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to multi-task and work under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Excellent people skills and communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and willingness to perform a variety of support tasks.
