Job description

Cam Clark Automotive Group is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to oversee and optimize our payroll processes across all Canadian dealership locations, ensuring compliance with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) regulations and provincial employment standards. This role requires a detail-orientated and analytical professional who excels in identifying process inefficiencies, financial risks, and areas of the payroll processes in non-compliance.

The ideal candidate will drive systems optimization, design payroll workflows, and proactively resolve payroll-related challenges. Additionally, this role will support data collection and reporting for our Senior Leadership team and the annual NADA Workforce Study, providing insights into compensation trends and workforce benchmarks within our group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for all Canadian dealership locations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Lead a small team of specialist to manage and oversee the end-to-end payroll processes, including remittances, records of employment, accounts receivable, special payments, payroll audits, and tax information slips.
  • Ensure adherence to policies and procedures in compliance with statutory and legislative requirements, collective agreements, accounting and auditing standards and employee’s terms and conditions of employment.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records, reports for audits, compliance checks, and industry benchmarking.
  • Assist with the HRIS implementation, ensuring alignment with dealership needs.
  • Analyze payroll workflows across multiple locations, identifying inefficiencies and implementing process improvements.
  • Leverage payroll systems to automate and streamline payroll operations.
  • Collaborate with HR and accounting to enhance system integrations and reporting accuracy.
  • Monitor and resolve, as needed, the interfacing data from various internal systems to the payroll system and onto the financial system.
  • Identify financial risks, payroll discrepancies, and areas of non-compliance, implementing corrective actions.
  • Develop and enforce internal controls to minimize payroll-related risks and errors.
  • Serve as the primary problem solver for payroll issues, providing solutions that align with best practices.
  • Address payroll inquiries from employees and leadership, ensuring a high level of service.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a payroll management role, preferably in the automotive, retail, or multi-location environment.
  • Professional designation in Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP), or Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP).
  • Strong knowledge of CRA payroll compliance requirements, including statutory deductions, taxable benefits, and employer remittances.
  • Experience with payroll systems such as Payworks and Ceridian.
  • Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills with experience in risk identification and mitigation.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, payroll tax compliance, and financial reporting.
  • Experience in process improvements, systems optimization, and automation.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to work cross-functionally with HR, Finance, and Management.
