JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for supporting the payroll/HRIS functions in conjunction with the Finance and Human Resources team.
CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as contact for payroll/HRIS provider, ensuring payroll is submitted correctly on a bi-weekly basis (incl. new hires, terminations, expenses, incentive pays, bonuses, gym memberships, employee purchases, etc.)
- Maintains HRIS portal, updating job titles, job descriptions, benefit details, etc.
- Liaises with payroll/HRIS provider to ensure remittances to CRA, Employment Insurance and Workplace Safety and Insurance Board are complete and on time per government requirements
- Remains up to date on payroll changes and tax changes in applicable provinces
- Provides support and assistance to employees regarding payroll, benefit, HRIS questions or requests (i.e. letters of employment)
- Tracks statutory holidays calendars for accuracy
- Supports year-end reporting process for T4s and makes adjustments as required (i.e. PIER auditing)
- Supports the T2200 process annually
- Keeps payroll information filed, organized and confidential
- Looks for efficiencies to streamline payroll processes
- Provides necessary information to finance to allow for proper tracking and trending
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects or assignments at one time and ability to multi-task
- Thorough research and problem-solving skills
- Capable of providing a balanced and common-sense approach to routine and complex issues
- Excel at working well while under pressure
QUALIFICATIONS
- University / College diploma in same or related field
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner certification an asset
- 1-3 years current experience in a comparable role
- Familiarity with ADP, UKG, and/or Workday a strong asset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written)
- Able to multi-task and effectively manage priorities
- Able to work under pressure in an ever-changing and dynamic environment
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and other Office applications
