Common Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Payroll Coordinator

Process bi-weekly payroll ensuring accurate calculation of hourly wages, taxes and mandatory deductions in compliance with provincial and federal regulations.
Audit daily timecards to ensure hours are allocated correctly into different job codes, equipment, daily trucks and work title.
Coordinate with foremen, superintendents and project managers to resolve discrepancies, clarify time entry issues, and implement adjustments as needed.
Administer vacation pay and overtime in compliance with company policies and HR standards.
Ensure employee status changes, deductions, and benefits are accurately reflected in payroll, maintaining accurate records.
Propose improvements related to payroll workflow and prompt employee time input to management.
Generate any required payroll documentation for verification or legal purposes such as letter of employment or Record of Employment (ROE).

Employee Relations and Other Tasks

  1. Support employee onboarding by ensuring accurate payroll setup and introduction to workplace policies and the site crew.
  2. Act as a primary contact for all employee inquiries related to compensation and benefits.
  3. Engage in the performance review process by handling pay-related recognitions and updates.
  4. Assist the management team with administrative tasks for team events.
  5. Support project managers in their effort to promote and sustain a positive workplace culture by identifying opportunities to improve team communication as they arise.

Required Qualifications

  1. Strong proficiency in written and spoken English.
  2. A post-secondary degree or a college diploma in Accounting, Business Administration or any related field.
  3. Minimum 2 years of full-cycle payroll processing experience.
  4. Previous experience in the construction industry.
  5. Minimum 3 years of experience and proven proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  6. Previous experience in Viewpoint (or similar payroll software for construction companies).
