Job Description

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the Patient Care Coordinator will support oversight and coordination of daily unit operations and patient care activities both on a day-to-day basis as well as long-term planning. You will be responsible for identifying the learning needs of nursing staff, ensuring quality and operational metrics are met, and providing staff in-services on new equipment and/or process changes. In this leadership role, you will support critical care program projects and activities while creating a supportive culture through staff engagement and team building. The successful applicant will need to be familiar with Critical Care standards and initiatives and demonstrate excellence in practice through full role functions: Practitioner, Educator, Consultant, Leader, and Researcher.

Requirements

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • At least 5 years of acute care nursing experience in critical care nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of charge nurse experience
  • Required certifications specific to critical care
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work well with families, patients, and all levels of the health care team
  • Ability to advocate for quality care based on patient outcomes within a multidisciplinary environment
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate well-developed critical thinking and conflict resolution skills
  • Competent to perform BCLS, ACLS
  • Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills and the ability to work well in stressful situations
  • Experience with staffing, patient flow, and patient assignments
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities by leading rounds, huddles, and initiating new practices and processes
  • Experience in the preparation of staffing schedules
  • Comfortable with collective agreement language with regards to schedules and calling in staff (ONA, CUPE)
  • Proficient in computer skills or willing to learn (Microsoft Office, EZ Schedule, Staffing Request System, Kronos)
  • OHA Leadership Courses (have or to acquire in the first 6 months of hire)

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing
  • Ability to speak another language
