The Patient Advocate and Ethics Lead is responsible for the operation of an integrated model for Patient Relations and Ethics. The role will oversee the process for patient concerns, complaints and compliments as well as operational matters related to Ethics and supporting the work of the HDGH Corporate Patient and Family Advisory Council.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees patient relations including the process for compliments, concerns, and complaints and documents appropriately.
- Participates in group discussions at the department, unit, interdepartmental and management level to assist in conflict resolution.
- In collaboration with the community representative, Co-Chair the Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) and all administrative support for the committee.
- Engages PFAC as an equal partner in the co-design of new policy, policy review, new programs and initiatives, staff education and organizational culture.
- Strategically guides the advancement of the Essential Care Partner program, ensuring that the healthcare team is promoting and educating families and visitors in the value of the ECP Program.
- In collaboration with the Director of Communication and Mission, implements education programs that support themes from the Patient Advocacy office.
- Provides support for operational activities related to policies, procedures and standards to support the delivery of established goals and objectives for each program area.
- In conjunction with HDGH’s Contracted BioEthicist, provides leadership to and oversees the Ethics Committee.
- Fosters a culture of ongoing discernment, identifying decisions appropriate for the formal use of Ethical Decision making.
- Collaborates with Ethics Ambassadors to provide education to all levels of staff on Ethics and the process for Ethical decision-making.
- Establishes and manages budget allocation responsibly, with accountability and following established policies.
- Ensures the completion of projects, plans and initiatives within reasonable and expected timeframes and allocated resources.
QUALIFICATIONS/ CERTIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree, Health Sciences, Social Sciences or other related fields – required.
- A Master’s Degree or Graduate Diploma in a related field – asset.
- Must have 5-7 years of recent, related experience including significant experience in progressively responsible leadership roles, preferably in a health care or human services setting.
- Ability to work productively in a fast-paced, team environment and manage a multifaceted workload under strict deadlines.
- Proven ability to communicate with all levels of individuals across all departments at HDGH and community partners, while handling all information with sensitivity.
- Must have demonstrated systems thinking and problem-solving acumen.
- Demonstrates excellent ability to handle and resolve conflict.
- Practice good interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
- Superior team building and coaching abilities, both as a leader and a team member.
- Registration with Professional Designations – asset.
