PART TIME TRANSIT OPERATOR (1 position)
Reporting To
Transit Supervisor Department:
Transit Classification: PERMANENT Part Time; Unionized
Salary Range: $29.28- $32.90/hour as per Schedule “A”
Hours of Work: Up to 24 hours as per Collective Agreement
Starting Date: As soon as possible

Duties and Responsibilities:- Defensively drive a City bus on a preset route
- Adhere to Highway Traffic Act Regulations
- Maintain specified schedule
- Navigate detours or road blockages as mandated
- Monitor passenger fare payments for group and monthly passes
- Accurately issue transfers
- Deliver cash fares to vault at the end of the day
- Ensure all equipment and passengers are properly secured
- Adhere to all AODA mandated protocols in properly securing Assistive Devices
- Perform regular circle checks of the bus, report any anomalies or concerns to Transit Supervisor/Leadhand
- Identify any mechanical problems/concerns encountered or noted on route to Transit Supervisor/Leadhand
- Establish great rapport with passengers
- Act as an Ambassador of the City by conducting themselves in a professional manner
- In the event of an emergency or motor vehicle accident, support and check the wellbeing of all passengers, notify the Transit Supervisor/Leadhand, and all emergency services based on needs
- Train new drivers as required
- Perform other duties as assigned from time to time
Qualifications:Essential:- Must possess a valid Class “B or C” Driver’s License with “Z” Endorsement and must maintain license in good standing
- Must have exceptional customer experience and feel comfortable interacting with the public
- Must always conduct themselves in a positive and professional manner
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Work with minimal supervision, follows the Rules and Regulations as established by the Transit Division
Preferred:- Standard First Aid with CPR-C and AED certification
- Knowledge and working experience in AODA Customer Service Regulation
Working Conditions:Subject to driving in adverse road conditions. Requires sitting for long periods of time. Working in a very public forum and subject to constant public scrutiny. May be requested to work additional hours.
