Job Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, the Program Manager will lead, develop, and implement initiatives that promote civic participation and legislative advocacy, including Lift’s Women on Wednesday program. Women on Wednesday (WOW) is an advocacy program to advance policies for women, girls, and gender-expansive people in Louisiana. Each week during the Louisiana Legislative Session, we will host groups of advocates at the State Capitol to learn about proposed legislation, its potential impacts, and ways to influence the legislative process. The Program Manager will also cultivate a movement of engaged citizens who are building relationships with their elected leaders while also holding them accountable.

This role involves meticulous planning, coordination, and communication to ensure that advocacy events run smoothly and effectively support the organization’s advocacy goals. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, experience in event planning or advocacy, a deep commitment to reproductive justice, experience in community organizing, and a proven ability to manage programs and build partnerships.

Though Lift is currently offering this position as part-time, we are seeking a candidate who may be open to shifting to full-time status as organizational budget and need increases to meet other programming needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Program Development and Management:
   • Design, implement, and oversee civic engagement programs, including Lift’s Women on Wednesday program.
   • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness through feedback surveys and focus groups with program participants and partners.
   • Coordinate with the Communications Manager to prepare messaging, social media, or email communications about programming and ensure all programming is adequately promoted.
2. Event Planning and Coordination:
   • Coordinate all aspects of the Women on Wednesday and civic engagement events, including securing venues, arranging transportation, scheduling meetings with lawmakers, and organizing training sessions for participants.
   • Work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure that all logistical details are managed efficiently.
   • Recruit and manage participants for WOW, ensuring diverse representation from across the state.
   • Manage registration, including tracking participant information and ensuring clear communication leading up to the event.
   • Maintain detailed records of events, including participant data, meeting outcomes, and follow-up actions for future advocacy efforts.
3. Volunteer Recruitment and Management:
   • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers to support civic engagement activities, ensuring they are well-equipped and motivated to carry out their roles.
   • Develop volunteer retention strategies and create a positive and inclusive environment for volunteers.
   • Foster leadership within the community by identifying and mentoring participants with leadership potential, and providing opportunities for them to expand their involvement and influence in civic advocacy.
4. Advocacy and Public Education:
   • Organize and conduct training sessions for participants to prepare them for meetings with lawmakers. This includes providing briefings on key issues, legislative priorities, and effective advocacy techniques.
   • Create and distribute informational packets, talking points, and other resources to ensure participants are well-prepared and confident in their roles.
   • Equip participants with the skills to navigate challenging conversations, maintain composure, and effectively manage escalations.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in event planning, advocacy, public relations, or a related field.
• Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in political science, public relations, event management, or a related field. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Positive management and leadership style.
• Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Proficiency with Eventbrite, Google Suite, Zoom, and Slack.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with internal teams and external partners, including lawmakers, community organizations, and vendors.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse communities.
• Effective facilitation, conflict resolution, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Deep commitment to racial equity and gender and reproductive justice.

Additional Requirements:

• Flexibility to work extended hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, as needed for event preparation and execution.
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, internet access, and phone are required.
• Ability to work Wednesdays from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm March through June is a must.

Location:
This is a remote position based in Louisiana with preference for candidates that reside within 60 miles of Baton Rouge. Candidates who reside in Baton Rouge are highly encouraged to apply. During the legislative session (March-June), extensive time will be spent at the State Capitol Building. Other state and local travel may be required to fulfill job duties.

Compensation:
The hourly rate for this part-time position is $26.75 with a minimum of 25 hours per week required.
