As Parks Urban Forestry Coordinator, you will provide leadership and supervision to Parks urban forestry staff while working effectively with other Parks & Cemeteries functional areas and other City of Lethbridge departments to provide exceptional service to the community. You will be responsible for the overall delivery of forestry activities, meeting established service levels and working within operating budgets. You will develop, implement and monitor work plans that enable staff to perform safely, effectively, and efficiently.
Leading a dynamic and committed team of forestry personnel, the coordinator oversees and provides expertise on all issues relating to the City of Lethbridge urban forest. This position is an integral member of the Parks and Cemeteries team that will have significant influence in the decision making for the department. You will also be responsible for creating a safe, fun, positive working environment for employees and for responding to the public about tree and shrub inquiries. Spending time outside in beautiful Lethbridge weather in the summertime is a bonus of this position.
As a Program Coordinator you are responsible for:
- The day-to-day delivery of Parks urban forestry programs and schedules
- The front-line implementation of work including business planning, developing an annual workplan and developing the business process to accomplish the objectives of the Parks Urban Forestry Program
- Record work, data collection, document updates to equipment inventory and unit/equipment rate analysis
- Quality control of the overall program delivery and accomplishment of acceptable levels of service
- Administering Parks forestry training programs, including record keeping, development and upkeep of training guides and development of new trainers
- Representing Parks urban forestry on the H&S committee, including working with the training committee
- Dealing effectively with customer service requests and bringing complex issues to successful resolution using professionalism, tact and can-do attitude
- Earning the trust, respect and confidence of the community
As a Team Leader you are responsible for:
- Leading a dynamic team of committed individuals
- Working in a collaborative manner to achieve the corporate vision and enhance park users’ experience daily
- Providing leadership in Health & Safety, team building, decision making, performance management, budgeting and resource allocation
- Providing exceptional customer and public service
- Ensuring attention to detail
- Coordinating multiple working groups
- Problem solving any issues that arise
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will have a high level of working knowledge of Parks Urban Forestry including:
- Two years of post-secondary education in urban forestry or a related field, or equivalent of education and experience
- A minimum of 8 years of Parks Urban Forestry experience, maintenance related or otherwise
- A minimum of 8 years of experience working in a municipal setting, including labour relations and Operational Health & Safety programs
- Excellent team management and supervisory skills, with proven experience
- Knowledge of working within a Unionized environment, under a Collective Agreement
- Excellent communications skills including proficiency with computers, presentations, written and oral language
- Unrestricted Class 5 Operator’s license with no more than 5 demerit points
- Up to date and on-going technical knowledge and putting into practice learning and developing best practice standards
- Strong Networking and research skills as well as the ability to be involved in program sharing across municipalities
- Ability to manage, develop and enhance regular program delivery
- Being an advisor on policy creation and standards for development and maintenance
- Ability to act as a corporate resource and understand how to work with other departments for the benefit of the community as a whole
- ISA Arborist Certification
WAGE: $52.47 per hour
HOURS: 40 hours a week. May involve shift work.
