Job description

Do you have a general understanding of park and landscape maintenance techniques? Do you have strong time management, organizational and public relation skills? If so, we want you on our Parks Services Team!

As the successful candidate as Parks Labourer (Seasonal), you will be responsible for setting the level of service for the general public by assisting to provide a safe, clean park area for recreation and leisure enjoyment of the public. This position will have primary interaction with the public and requires a friendly, helpful demeanour coupled with an interest in working in a parks environment in order to assist in achieving the departmental strategic goals.

You Will

  • Daily general park maintenance duties such as:
  • Collecting garbage, recycling and litter.
  • Cleaning washrooms, facilities and infrastructure.
  • Daily visual playground inspections.
  • Minor facility and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Completing inspection and maintenance reports.
  • Providing information and assistance to the public.
  • Assist with:
  • On-going trail maintenance and construction.
  • Natural area management.
  • In-house constructed capital projects.
  • Horticultural activities.
  • Facility and amenity maintenance.
  • General park operation tasks.
  • Delivery of the risk management program.
  • Contributes to the overall strategic delivery of Parks Services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

To be successful in this role, you must have completed grade 12 (or equivalent), have a valid BC Driver's Licence and a good understanding of park and landscape maintenance techniques. You must have sufficient physical strength and stamina to do manual outdoor work in all types of weather and be comfortable working at times by yourself. This position requires experience using small tools and equipment safely, understanding facility and infrastructure maintenance, cleaning, construction techniques, and safe operation of ATV's, lawn equipment and tractors. You must be organized, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be a team player.

This is a permanent, seasonal position that runs 33 weeks from March 18, 2025 to November 4, 2025 (with entitlement to recall during the next season for full-time, seasonal staff). This position will be a 40-hour workweek, Sunday to Thursday from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm. This position has an hourly wage of $30.38.
