Who can apply:
- To be considered for employment under one of the student employment programs, the student must:
1. Reside or attend a recognized post-secondary institution within British Columbia, Alberta or Saskatchewan.
2. Have successfully completed at least two years (at time of employment) at a recognized postsecondary institution (College, University, CEGEP, etc.) in a program leading to a degree in a field related to biological sciences, ecology, environmental sciences, or other fields closely related to natural science.
3. Be registered as a full-time (3 courses/term) post-secondary student in a recognized institution (prior to employment) and be returning to studies for the next academic term (post-employment), or have recently graduated (within 4 months since graduation). Proof of full-time student status or completed degree will be required.

Duties
Vegetation Restoration Technician
- Contribute to invasive vegetation management by conducting front country and backcountry field surveys, applying control, monitoring population trends and inputting data.
- Provide semi-skilled plant identification.
- Assist in vegetation maintenance and restoration projects including: prescribed fire, species at risk monitoring and plant surveys.
- Support additional fire and vegetation activities.
- Potential opportunity to also support the ecological integrity monitoring programs.

Aquatics Technician
- Support the park's aquatics program by conducting field surveys and recording data following established protocols for freshwater ecosystem monitoring and restoration projects (e.g. monitoring fish and amphibian distribution and abundance, habitat assessment, aquatic invasive species, and water quality).
- Potential opportunity to also support the ecological integrity monitoring program.

Ecological Integrity Monitoring
- Support the park’s long-term ecological integrity monitoring program by conducting field surveys and recording data following established protocols for a suite of measures (e.g. songbird diversity, whitebark pine).
- Service remote wildlife cameras, data entry, image classification using databases.
- Potential opportunity to support vegetation restoration and aquatics programs.

Work environment
The Resource Conservation department is searching for students to join our Vegetation Restoration and Aquatics, and Ecological Integrity Monitoring programs for the 2025 summer season! Students will do a diverse mix of field work in spectacular settings, researching a range of resource conservation issues, developing and conducting communication activities for a variety of audiences, and completing office work.

Intent of the process
The results of this process will be used to fill student positions for the Summer of 2025 in the Jasper Field Unit and may be used to fill similar student positions in Fall 2025 or Winter/Spring 2026.

EDUCATION
- Successful completion of at least two years at a recognized post-secondary institution in a program leading to a degree in a field related to biological sciences, ecology, geography, environmental sciences, or other field closely related to natural science.
- Currently registered as a full-time post-secondary student in a recognized institution (prior to employment) AND be returning to studies for the next academic term (post-employment), OR have recently graduated (within 4 months since graduation).

EXPERIENCE
- Strong wilderness travel skills including experience hiking long distances with a heavy backpack in steep mountainous terrain, across unbridged rivers or creeks, in inclement weather conditions, and on day and overnight trips;
- Experience collecting, compiling and managing field data as well as writing summary documents or reports;
- Experience using scientific research computer applications such as database management software, spreadsheets, geographic information systems (GIS).

KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of the principles of ecosystem restoration, conservation and ecology;
- Knowledge of vegetation and vegetation management (Vegetation Restoration Technician);
- Knowledge of aquatic and/or ecological monitoring techniques (Aquatics Technician, Ecological Integrity Monitoring Technician).

ABILITIES
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
- Ability to apply quality control and quality assurance methods in field data collection and data management;
- Ability to provide information on park research to a variety of audiences including the general public and other park staff;
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment as required.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Willingness to travel between various work sites;
- Willingness to camp in the backcountry overnight.

Conditions of employment
- Reliability Status security clearance
- You are required to possess and maintain a valid Class 5 driver's licence recognized by the province/territory applicable to this offer of employment (N and graduated license are acceptable; a Learner's permit {L} will not be accepted).
- You must be willing to work overtime.
- You will be required to work shift-work, and/or weekends, and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays as scheduled by your delegated manager.
- You must be willing to work and travel in a variety of terrains and weather conditions in the performance of the duties.
- You will be required to work in adverse weather conditions.
- You will be required to wear a uniform while performing your duties.
- You must possess and maintain a valid Standard First Aid with CPR or equivalent.
