- Draft, review and process various legal documents (including pleadings and statutory documents) with a solid understanding of legal rules, procedures and legislation.
- Prepare supporting materials for questionings, hearings, court or statutory steps relating to expropriation, by investigating facts and relevant precedents.
- Analyze pleadings to determine issues involved, determine location of producible records, gather, organize and make preliminary decisions on relevancy, producibility and privilege in any legal proceedings.
- Strong working knowledge and understanding of electronic litigation support software to prepare document productions.
- Attend at questionings, hearings or other meetings (virtually or in person) to support the process by tracking undertakings, displaying electronic documents and any other support required.
- Provide Paralegal support conducting straightforward research, using appropriate legal research tools, such as Westlaw, CanLII and other online sources.
- Maintain records, update databases, and track file status pursuant to applicable File Management Protocols.
- Liaise with City departments to obtain appropriate relevant and material documentation.
- Support the training of Counsel and other team members where needed. Work with and provide guidance to other Legal Support Staff in a team-oriented atmosphere.
- Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications:- Completion of a 2 year Legal Assistant or Paralegal Diploma.
- Minimum of 3 years progressively responsible Paralegal experience.
- Experience preparing Affidavits of Records using a litigation support software tool such as Eclipse or a comparable tool.
- Experience with electronic research and resource tools such as Westlaw and CanLII.
Assets:
- Experience in public sector.
- Progressive litigation experience.
Skills required for success:
- Knowledge of procedures/practices in all levels of Court.
- Experience in litigation.
- Experience and proficiency working with the Microsoft Office Suite and Google products such as Gmail, Drive, and Sheets.
- A self-starter with strong analytical, communication (verbal & written), and interpersonal skills.
- Well developed organizational skills to meet deadlines, conflict management skills, initiative and sound judgment.
- Ability to work independently and to partner productively with co-workers to create a strong team environment.

Up to 1 temporary, full-time position up to 18 months in accordance with Article 18.02 of the Collective Agreement.
Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week. This position adheres to the City's hybrid work policy requiring the candidate to work a minimum of two days per week in the office. The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
Salary Range: $37.546 - $47.165 (Hourly); $66,146 - $83,092 (Annually).
