Position SummaryOutside Summer Student positions will be responsible for assisting with the daily operation and maintenance of various City assets within the Public Works Operation Division.
Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesGround maintenance: including mowing, trimming activities
Horticultural maintenance: including planting, weeding and maintenance of annual, perennial and shrub beds along with other horticultural displays
Urban Forestry: Arboriculture operations including small and large tree care
Waste Management: Litter picking and planned garbage/recycling collection and disposal in parks
Parks Infrastructure: Sports field maintenance including lining, gilling, turf cutting, and various amenity repairs to sports fields
Assist staff in the inspection, cleaning and repair of multiple park amenities e.g. playgrounds, splash pads and picnic shelters
Water: Maintenance assistance of infrastructure repairs, data collection, work order entries and site restoration
Roads: maintenance assistance of infrastructure repairs, traffic control setup, parts delivery, work order entries and data collection
Events: Providing support for special events including delivery, set up, takedown, clean-up
Operate various hand tools and powered equipment, including a pickup truck (minimum ¾ ton truck)

Previous experience working in a municipal setting outdoors would be considered an asset
Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a team environment
Ability to deal with the public courteously and effectively
Must possess Green Patch CSA approved 8" safety boots
Ontario Class "G" Driver’s License in good standing and must provide a satisfactory current Drivers Abstract from the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO)
Be able to work outdoors during all weather conditions and available to work 7 days a week including holidays
