Job Description

Enjoy your summer days outside teaching children about nature, history, and outdoor skills! Ernie Miller Nature Center staff operates 2 large camps, 1 in the park and 1 in Shawnee Mission Park. The Outdoor Discovery Camps are licensed KDHE school-age programs run by our award-winning Outdoor Education Team of full-time Park Naturalists.

This position assists in leading children ages 6-12 in outdoor and indoor activities. Our activities include games, stories, crafts, swimming, creek exploration, field trips, kayaking & canoeing, archery, bb guns, sling shots, hiking, nature and wildlife lessons, etc. May perform other related duties as assigned.

Hourly Salary: $12.00

Scheduling and shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.

Job Requirements

• Minimum age 16.
• Teaching, outdoor skills, camp, and/or environmental education experience preferred.
• Must be willing to obtain CPR & First Aid Certificate (training available).
• Background check required.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and pass driving record check.
• Must be able to work all day outdoors, May 27 – August 1, M-F hours vary 7 am-5:30 pm with approximately 40 hours per week.
• Must attend a paid camp training held May 19 - 23.
