We are currently hiring Operator A to join the team at our mechanical evaporation facility in Unity, Saskatchewan.

Unity : Located in the western part of Saskatchewan, Compass Minerals’ Unity Mechanical Evaporation Plant is one of the company’s four mechanical evaporation plants. The plant produces and packages a wide variety of salt products including water conditioning salt, bulk salt, food-grade salt and salt for agriculture. The Unity Evaporation Plant is located in a friendly community of 2,500 that loves hockey and curling, situated in the beautiful big-sky prairies, an hour from North Battleford and a 2-hour drive from Saskatoon. How will you contribute to the team?

This position reports to the Production and Quality Supervisor, and works alongside other operator and maintenance personnel, to accomplish plant production objectives.

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Various clean up duties and sanitation of areas assigned by supervisor.
  • Operation of various production lines including: IBC Bagger and Packing Line.
  • Operation and cleaning of Dust Collection equipment and completion of Dust Collector Operator tasks including: cleaning the Crushing Area, daily dust collector cleaning and maintenance.
  • Able to safely and adequately complete janitorial tasks.
  • Operate mobile equipment including: Forklift, Skidsteer, and Loader.
  • Occasionally help in the maintenance department.
  • Perform small maintenance tasks.
  • Responsible for the safe handling and storage of all finished product and of opened packaging material.
  • Conduct sanitation and food safety checks for all equipment, products, and packaging materials, including those in the upper warehouse.
  • Conduct magnet and screen checks and taking retain sample(s) for further analysis.
  • Accurately complete all worksheets for each shift.
  • Responsible for changing over equipment for all products made.
  • Responsible for various operator QC checks including weight checks, QC of packaging materials, Pad tests, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What should you bring to the role?

The successful candidate will have:

  • Minimum of a Grade 12 Diploma.
  • Previous work experience in a process-related industry, knowledgeable about process equipment and control systems, and flexible to different task assignments.
  • Previous experience operating a Forklift is considered an asset.
  • Ability to multi-task, have a high sense of urgency with regards to operational requirements and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Mechanical background with the ability to troubleshoot, problem solve, repair and resolve issues related to the position is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel.
  • Experience with inventory management and/or billing software an asset.
  • Have a valid class 5 driver’s license.

What is the work schedule?

  • As per the collective agreement, the shift schedule is Monday - Friday, 8hrs days.
