Plains is looking for an Operations Technician to work at the Empress Straddle Facility located approximately 100 kms north of Medicine Hat. This position will provide support to operations and maintenance, as well as ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and company policies and procedures as they pertain to this role.
Responsibilities:
- Performance of all Junior Operations Technician responsibilities and work tasks with minimal supervision.
- Assists and performs tasks in the Preventive Maintenance (PM) program along with corrective work orders.
- Performs lockouts on company assets.
- Completes facility checks, reporting abnormal conditions and troubleshooting as necessary.
- Operates electrical heat tracing systems, electrical systems, fire water systems, flare systems, fuel gas systems, heat medium systems, hot oil systems, instrument air systems, liquid nitrogen systems, methanol injection systems, reporting abnormal conditions and troubleshooting as necessary.
- Creates and uses Energy Isolation Plans to prepare equipment and piping and ensures zero energy before releasing equipment to maintenance; accepts equipment and piping at maintenance completion;
- Operating, maintaining, and / or repairing equipment and systems including equipment startup, shutdown and isolation;
- Working effectively in a team environment to monitor, log, resolve, and escalate operational and safety issues;
- Ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards, policies, procedures, and site-specific training;
- Maintaining appropriate records and documents and submitting reports as required;
- Maintaining the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and following prescribed safety regulations.
- Conducts effective shift turnovers.
- Responds to abnormal and emergency events.
- Accountable to inform senior personnel of hazard identification and near misses.
- Demonstrates safe work practices following Plains’ safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- A valid 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate is required; Completion of your 3rd Class Power Engineer Certificate is preferred.
- Previous experience in a gas plant or related operations environment is preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude;
- Ability to work efficiently independently or as a team member with minimal supervision;
- Possess good communicational skills;
- General computer knowledge;
- Minimum Grade XII education;
- Ability to speak, read, and write English and the ability to perform basic math.
- Must have an outstanding safety record.
- Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks;
- Compliance with the Company’s drug and alcohol policy including pre-employment D&A testing;
- Compliance with the Company’s requirement to be clean shaven to ensure proper fit of emergency PPE.
- A valid Driver’s License with a clean Driver’s Abstract is a condition of employment.
