The Operations Net Zero Delivery Lead is responsible for managing the ONZ program delivery for Canada. The Lead will provide the strategic vision and roadmap for Aviva Canada’s operations, supply chain and procurement to achieve net zero operations and supply chain by 2040. This role’s focus will span across various business domains such as corporate, facilities, and indirect procurement.

What you'll do:Strategic
  • Leading Aviva Canada’s Scope 1&2 decarbonisation workstream to ensure it delivers on its public commitment to be operations net zero by 2040; creating and delivering robust decarbonization plans for Aviva Canada’s operational sites, aligning the property strategy and BAU site management with these.
  • Crafting and managing roadmaps and supervising progress against the ONZ outcomes and results to ensure operation and supply chain net zero targets are met by 2040.
  • Accountable for raising issues to the Operational Sponsor to drive effective resolution.
  • Working closely with ONZ Delivery Lead, PMO, and the ONZ workstream leads in Canada for Scope 1 & 2, Scope 3 Categories 2-14, Travel and Fleet, Waste to provide joint leadership of ONZ outcomes.
  • Overseeing the reporting to the Operational, Exec Sponsor, Sustainability Working Group and ASA Executive Committee.
  • Preparing and maintaining schedules of activities and events, taking account of dependencies and resource requirements.
  • Providing central expertise and ensuring consistency of decisions in relation to the execution of the Aviva Group.
  • Identifying and monitoring ONZ risks and issues, ensuring mitigation actions are in place.
  • Representing function at Canada and Group steering committee meetings and ONZ progress review calls.
  • Crafting and delivering insightful program reporting – making necessary adjustments to adapt to changing requirements.
  • Developing circularity strategy (e.g. waste reduction, management, recycling, etc.) and roadmap of initiatives to be completed in collaboration with IT and facilities team.
  • Working with all Aviva offices across Canada, our supply chain partners, and other organizations to build and develop collaborative relationships which focus on achieving the waste reduction, zero waste to landfill and Ops Net Zero targets.
  • Supporting existing Aviva team to expand and mature our supplier enablement and performance management by integrating ESG compliance and progress.
  • Conducting market research of changing regulations and policies and providing relevant training to local Canadian team members.
  • Developing a framework for calculating, recording, monitoring, and supervising ESG metrics and performance indicators within supply chain, operations, and procurement.
  • Supporting Category Managers to come up with critical initiatives within procurement and supply chain that deliver benefits with measurable ESG metrics.
  • Working with the corporate sustainability team to incorporate new company mandates and objectives related to ESG into the strategic roadmap of Procurement and Corporate Services team.
Relationship Management
  • Acting as the main point of contact in liaising with Aviva UK delivery and sustainability teams.
  • Supporting our corporate sustainability team with provision of data or information to contribute to corporate reporting such as sustainability reports.
  • Collaborating with our corporate sustainability team to socialize various ESG initiatives and accomplishments to highlight its progress and outcomes, internally and externally.
  • Acting as the liaison with corporate sustainability team to assist the Procurement SLT on establishing ESG related goals and targets.
Operational
  • Acting as the Canadian ONZ Operations risk domain lead and assisting in being compliant with ESG related regulations (e.g. Bill S-211, OSFI B-15, and other future regulations).
  • Identifying and following ESG-related issues within operations and supply chain and developing remediation plans to mitigate risks.
  • Collaborating with the Facilities team to operationalize waste reduction and prevention initiatives.
  • Carrying out due diligence and review of waste management vendors in collaboration with the facilities team.
  • Working with the facilities and procurement team to ensure compliance by keeping record of applicable waste documentation and supplier licence information.
What you'll bring:
  • University degree or equivalent experience in Business Administration, Engineering, Supply Chain, Environmental Studies, or related field.
  • Demonstrated ability (5+ years) in sustainability and supply chain.
  • Formal project management qualification (PMP) desirable, but not vital.
  • Proven track record of inspiring change using project management rigour.
  • Experience working in organizational change within a large, sophisticated organization.
  • Effective risk and issue management skills.
  • Excellent ESG understanding - sustainability qualification preferred and willingness to undertake vital training to fill any knowledge gaps.
  • The ability to work with internal teams as well as consultants.
  • Strong business knowledge and technical skills to advise and recommend optimal, relevant and accurate information to the business for decision making purposes.
  • Self-starter and proactive demeanour with capability to effectively implement end to end results.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience communicating at all levels.
  • Strong customer focus and relationship management skills.
  • Both a strong leader and great teammate.
  • Strong analytical skills and detail-oriented.
  • Proven ability to embrace and lead change, be highly adaptable and flexible, decisive and display excellent judgment.
  • Strong consulting skills, ability to influence collaborators.
