Job Description and Responsibilities
As part of the management team, the Operations Manager supports the Regional Manager by coordinating site operations, including sales, production, purchasing, customer service, and managing a team to ensure that the site remains safe and environmentally compliant.
- Performs staffing scheduling and manages day-to-day operations of the site
- Provide performance feedback, counseling, coaching, and training to the team
- Ensures policies and procedures are communicated and implemented by performing weekly audit tours of the facility, working with Heath Safety and Environment to meet and implement company standards, work with the production supervisor to create, train, and implement standard operating procedures. Hold weekly facility meetings with supervisors and employees to review KPI's and plan for the week
- Prepares operating reports for the management and operations team to ensure overall safeguarding of company assets
- By partnering with all internal corporate support resources, ensures compliance with all regulations and policies to achieve results
- Solicits operations information to provide recommendations to strategic plans and reviews, prepares and completes action plans, implements production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards, resolves problems; completes audits, identifies trends
- Develops operations systems by determining product handling and storage requirements, develops, implements, enforces, and evaluates policies and procedures, develops processes for receiving products, equipment utilization, inventory management, and shipping
- Analyzes process workflow, employee and space requirements, and equipment layout, implements changes
- Establishes and enforces standards and procedures, complies with legal regulations to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. Works with Transport Canada on rail safety and securement
- Develops and maintains equipment maintenance schedule
- Coordinates and maintains parts inventory to ensure continuous production/operations in case of equipment outage. Purchases parts for mobile equipment
- Ensures freight weights for rail cars, by working with supervisors and operators to maximize loads. Checking daily weight reports and working with operators to improve on weights in rail cars based on actuals from KPI
- Hires, trains, develops, monitors, and evaluates staff performance. Reviews and recommends personnel actions for approval
Requirements
- 3 years of management or leadership experience in industrial manufacturing, automotive, or distribution
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proven leadership and communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Solid quantitative skills to understand site financial performance and operating statistics (KPIs)
- Bilingual in English and French , but not required
- Ability to reconcile sales, prepare reports, and read technical manuals
- Ability to handle multiple priorities while efficiently performing quality work with minimal supervision
- Ability to work required hours which includes weekends and holidays and also at any site assigned within reasonable distance from the home site
