ROLE: Operations Manager

REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation

LOCATION: Red Deer, AB

We are looking for an Operations Manager to join our Transportation Team! In this role, you'll be responsible for ensuring that equipment is operational and available, maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction, and leading the development of a strong team of drivers. This includes offering advice, guidance, and support to help subordinates grow professionally. The ideal candidate will take a proactive, customer-focused approach to problem-solving while creating a productive and supportive work environment for all team members.

The main challenge of this position is coordinating and conferring with professional staff to resolve operating problems and difficulties. You will also provide high-level support for several projects from an operational, financial, and resource standpoint. • You have a proven track record of soft skills (adaptability, time management, and conflict resolution).
• You have applicable computer skills including MS Office Suite.

Experience

• You have at least 5 years of experience working in a supervisory or managerial role in transportation, logistics, or supply chain operations.
• You have experience working in a unionized environment.

Nice-to-Have

• You have experience working in food grade hauling.
• You are familiar with transportation management systems (TMS) and can leverage these tools for improving efficiency and performance.

Things you will do…

• Work with top-level management, customers, corporate staff, other locations, and supervisors to help workers meet objectives and boost the company's productivity.
• Continuously measure and evaluate the success of your team(s) and how well they meet goals.
• Help motivate employees to show up and stay productive. This includes sharing a common vision, encouraging them to develop their strengths, and inspiring them to do their best work at all times using effective communication skills.
• Meet organizational goals, including putting the right people in the right places. Organize people and help them build relationships to significantly affect outcomes and how well the group works together.
• Coordinate appropriate employee training to ensure they have the knowledge and skills they need to succeed.
• Set goals for individual employees and locations in conjunction with the organization, including planning and development of action items, strategies, and allocation of resources to complete tasks and meet goals.

OTHER …

• You may be on call working evenings or on weekends for urgent matters.
• You will be an active proponent of the Health & Safety program and its initiatives and Committee.
• You have a few locations within AB and will need to travel an estimated 5-10% of your year.
