Operations Manager

Summary of Position:
AWC Operations Canada (AWCC) performs many logistics functions including real-time yard management, data transfers, vehicle locating, dealer delivery, import/export preparations, rail car preparation, and extensive assembly plant operations.
The Operations Manager is responsible for managing all activities of the operation at the AWCC Wolverton, ON facility which provides logistics services for Glovis Canada Inc. This document provides a general overview of the requirements of the position and does not entail a comprehensive list of all activities, duties, or responsibilities that will be required for this position.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Tasks:
- Reviews and approves plans for the control of outputs, budget spending, labor efficiency, material efficiency, and customer service.
- Reviews performance against operating plans and standards, providing reports to subordinates and approving changes in direction of plans.
- Presents monthly reports on performance results as requested by the VP Regional Operations.
- Develops and presents matters requiring higher decision authority to the District Manager.
- Reviews and is responsible for facility accounting statements.
- Develops and recommends operational policy for the Facility.
- Ensures compliance with Company Policies, Labour Agreements, and Federal, Provincial, and Local Laws and regulations.
- Reviews and approves cost reports, manpower, and facility requirements forecasts.
- Reviews and recommends capital expenses and establishes budget recommendations for the Facilities.
- Develops and maintains excellent business relationships with customer representatives.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Establishes objectives and procedures governing assigned activities, issuing specific annual objectives to immediate subordinates.
- Selects and maintains qualified personnel in all positions reporting directly and recommends compensation for them.
- Directs, monitors, and appraises personnel performance and provides necessary coordination between activities.
- Maintains appropriate communications within area of responsibility.
- Keeps associates informed on Company/facility plans and progress.
- Consults with management responsible for policy or action and ensures compliance within area of responsibility.
- Works closely with the Human Resources Manager on personnel-related issues to ensure compliance and consistency.
- Ensures duties, responsibilities, authority, and accountability of all direct subordinates are defined and understood.

- Maintains a safe, clean, and organized working environment; assists with property maintenance.

Education, Experience, and Minimum Requirements:
- Post-secondary education in a related field or a minimum of five (5) years experience in Rail operations, Automotive warehousing, and the shipping industry.
- Minimum three (3) years of supervisory/management experience, responsible for all operational disciplines.
- Valid full G driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to drive both automatic and manual transmission vehicles.
- Intermediate proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and email; ability to learn and adapt to new computer systems and software.
- Active Standard First Aid CPR A + AED certification.
- Ability to pass third-party pre-employment medical assessment.
- Subject to a background check including driving record, criminal record check, and credit check.
- Must have the ability to work in Canada without sponsorship.

Working Conditions:
- Work is performed indoors in an office setting and outside with exposure to all types of weather conditions.
- Working at a height of approximately 15 ft. above ground.
- Use of Personal Protective Equipment is required.
Physical Requirements:
- Good sense of balance.
- Ability to lift (including above head), push, pull, or carry up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and grip.
- Ability to get in/out of vehicles driver side door with minimal door opening clearance.
- Good visual ability.
