Job Summary: The Operational Grower will oversee the planting, cultivation, and harvesting of produce commodities and is responsible for maintaining a healthy vibrant crop to ensure a maximum yield.

Major Responsibilities

1. Works with the General Manager to plan for growing activities that are consistent with planned production schedules.
2. Prepares space required for planned production.
3. Monitors growing conditions and reviews changes in humidity, moisture, and temperature and cultivation procedures to ensure conformance with quality control standards.
4. Applies plant health products.
5. Inspects crops on a regular basis; removes substandard or diseased plants to maintain quality standards.
6. Develops growing procedures for new species in product line and new cultivation techniques.
7. Maintains records of growing techniques and production.
8. Maintains current knowledge of growing techniques and technologies.
9. Monitors the working environment to ensure that company and statutory hygiene, and health & safety policies and procedures are complied with.
10. Reports food safety and quality problems to personnel with authority.
11. Ensures all GMPS, SOP’s and policies & procedures are followed.
12. Other core expectations as defined by the company.

Qualifications

1. 2-5 years of experience in a cucumber and/or tomato greenhouse is required.
2. Calculation of amounts, proportions, percentages, and volume for the application of plant health products.
3. Knowledge of major plant groups and their culture and growth traits.
4. Use of injectors, electrical conductivity and pH meter, boom, and irrigation systems.
5. Thorough knowledge of water lines and ability to monitor conditions such as ventilation, light conditions, temperature, and humidity.
6. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to train team members and interact with all levels of the organization as well as with customers.
7. Identification of plant diseases and the existence of insects.
8. Positive troubleshooting skills.
9. MS Office computer skills; familiarity with Priva software is an asset.
10. Fluency in English and Spanish is considered an asset.

Work Environment

1. On call and overtime hours including regular Saturdays.
2. Conditions typically found in a greenhouse with high humidity and varying temperatures.
3. Exerting from 15 – 50 lbs. of force occasionally, 20 lbs. of force frequently and 10 lbs. of force constantly in order to lift and move product.
4. Bending, stretching, twisting, crouching, grasping, reaching, and lifting above shoulders.
5. Standing, sitting, and walking for prolonged periods of time may be required.
