Your Opportunity:

Located In the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, Unit 4 West Women’s Operating Room and Recovery Room provides primarily gynecological and obstetrical services, as elective and emergency procedures. The Operating Room Technician (ORT) provides care for a diverse patient population, that can include highly acute patients. As mentioned, the primary focus in the WOR is on gynecologic procedures, which includes gyne-oncology (cancer), uro-gynecology, general gynecology, minimally invasive and robotic surgery, gender affirming surgery, fertility, and obstetrics, in addition to occasional general surgery and urology services. As a multidisciplinary team member, the experienced ORT will provide peri-operative patient care in accordance with CLPNA practice standards. The incumbent will demonstrate competence in delivering safe, effective, and efficient care in both a scrub and a circulating role as an integral part of the surgical team. The nurse is responsible for providing safe care throughout the patient's stay in the surgical suite. The scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to advanced clinical nursing activities. The nurse promotes the professional role and evaluates their professional education and clinical practice standards. The ORT is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care during the peri-operative patient experience in accordance with hospital policies and standards. The incumbent will work with patients during the peri-operative phase of care and must demonstrate a professional, positive attitude, excellent communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills when performing scrubbing and circulating duties in the surgical environment. It is expected that the ORT is able to contribute to quality initiatives and promotes a professional work environment at all times.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Post-Grad Perioperative Certification required. OR Completion of a CLPNA approved perioperative course. 3-5 years current OR experience. Knowledge of advanced minimally invasive surgery (MIS). Ability to collaborate within the expectations of an integrated team. Ability to demonstrate problem solving skills integrating critical thinking and good judgment. Ability to demonstrate communications skills that promote respect and a positive team environment. Incumbent should have effective interpersonal and written communication skills. This role is physical in nature and includes but is not limited to transferring patients, moving supplies and requires walking, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting greater than 40-50lbs. Preferred Qualifications:

Recent or current gynecological operating room experience. Experience with robotic surgery. Laser certification and experience in assisting with surgical procedures using a CO2 laser. Experience as operating room Team Lead.
