PURPOSE
We are seeking a skilled OBM Technician to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical background and have the ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain various systems and equipment. This role requires hands-on experience with appliances, HVAC systems, and the ability to read and interpret schematics. REPORTS TO
The OBM reports to the Maintenance Manager.
DUTIES
- Installs, repairs and maintains oil burner boilers, furnaces and hot water tanks, ensuring optimal functionality.
- Inspects and maintains controls, drafts inducers, smokestacks, chimneys, and piping.
- Performs preventive maintenance and necessary cleaning of all components and parts.
- Troubleshoots mechanical issues using schematics and diagnostic tools.
- Welds components as necessary to ensure structural integrity.
- Plumbs systems for water supply and drainage as required.
- Builds and assembles mechanical parts for various equipment.
- Maintains accurate records of repairs and services performed.
- Collaborates with team members to enhance service delivery and efficiency.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or Technical School Program Completion.
- Journeyman Red Seal Certificate required or 4th year apprentice with service experience.
SKILLS
- Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions involved in the work performed.
- Proven experience in appliance boiler repair or HVAC systems is preferred.
- Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to work on various types of machinery.
- Familiarity with soldering techniques and plumbing practices is a plus.
- Ability to read technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- A valid driver's license may be required for travel between job sites.

Qammaq Housing Association is an agency of Nunavut Housing Corporation located in the town of Sanikiluaq. Sanikiluaq is in the heart of Hudson Bay in the Belcher Islands. The community is known for producing elaborate baskets, and the carvers from Sanikiluaq are world-renowned for their distinctive carvings made from local soapstone. The island is great for canoeing, sea kayaking, cross-country skiing, and hiking.
