Summary of Position
Reporting to the Regional Operations Manager, the Occupational Health Nurse is a full-time position responsible for performing pre-employment medical tests and fitness tests for clients, administering spirometry and audiometric testing, and drug and alcohol testing. This position also assists with client intake and manages substance abuse cases and disability management cases, including return to work, WSIB/WCB, injury reporting, and medical note validation.
Responsibilities
- Administer various occupational health tests including:
- Pre-employment medical screening
- Fitness
- Drug & Alcohol
- Department of Transportation (DOT) tests
- Audiometric
- Spirometry
- Vision
- Mask Fitting
- Other tests as required
- Disability management including return to work and medical note validation
- Injury reporting, WSIB and WCB case management
- Complete after hours and onsite testing at NorthStream Rehab office sites or mobile sites (client worksites) when required
- Assist with client intake (administration) which includes preparing required paperwork
- Ensure individuals receive their test results and inform them of next steps
- Complete corresponding paperwork and send test results to the correct department(s)
- Substance abuse case management. Evaluate, coordinate follow-up steps, referrals for treatment, and re-testing. Validate return to work eligibility
- Review chest x-rays
- Assist with training of new staff members
- Adhere to proper infection, prevention, and control guidelines
- Accurately collect and record information from patients as required
- Create a calm and positive experience for the clients
- Review and write policies as required
- Other duties and responsibilities as required such as on-call responsibilities
Qualifications & Requirements
- Registered Nurse BSN (preferred) or Registered Practical Nurse Diploma and current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Occupational Health Nursing (OHN) certification would be an asset. Commitment to obtain OHN Certification is required
- Demonstrated clinical competence with general medicine nursing skills; previous experience working in an outpatient clinic setting/ambulatory care environment preferred
- Minimum three years of proven administrative experience working in a similar office setting
- Familiarity with office software including Microsoft Word and Excel; experience using Veriport (test result reporting platform) and Jane (invoicing platform) would be an asset
- Current BLS/CPR Certificate
- Training provided by the Company:
- Breath Alcohol Technician certification
- Audiometry certification
- Spirometry certification
- Other certifications as required
- Experience working with diverse population groups
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 programs and Adobe Acrobat for PDFs
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and uphold a high level of discretion
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to develop trusting and professional relationships with clients and partners
- Self-motivated with excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work under pressure, in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines on multiple tasks
- Flexibility and good change management skills

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $30.00-$50.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 37.5 per week
