Position Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) is a vital team member of the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) department. The roles and responsibilities of each team member are collaborative and support individual employees and the organization in the provision of a safe and healthy work environment. The OHN plays an integral role in the provision of the OH&S programs - communicable disease surveillance, blood borne disease management, absence management, health assessments (pre-placement, referrals, respiratory fitness, illness, injury), health surveillance, health teaching and promotion, immunization, disability management - STD, LTD, WSIB; work accommodation, prevention of violence in the workplace as well as others.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
  • BScN preferred
  • CNA certification in Occupational Health Nursing – COHN(C)
  • Certificate or diploma in Occupational Health Nursing
  • A minimum of 5 years of recent experience in Occupational Health Nursing
  • Comprehensive, working knowledge of relevant legislation and guidelines – Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Safety & Insurance Act, Public Hospitals Act, Communicable Disease Surveillance Protocols for Ontario Hospitals MOHLTC, PIDAC Best Practices
  • Communicable Disease surveillance, immunization protocols and exposure management knowledge and experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in disability case management, absence management including STD, LTD and WSIB case management
  • Strong assessment, health teaching/promotion skills
  • Working knowledge of occupational wellness, ergonomics and safety
  • Ability to effectively manage high-risk situations
  • Demonstrated ability to appropriately prioritize multiple tasks and problem solve complex situations
  • Strong positive communication and interpersonal skills within team and all customers of team
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office programs, Parklane software knowledge considered an asset
  • Good attendance and work record is essential

HOURS OF WORK
Monday-Friday; may be required to work alternate hours as needed
