Position: Occupational Health & Safety Advisor
Term: Full Time, Permanent
Location: Dufferin Concrete
Start Date: 2024

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Health & Safety standards are met by coordinating, promoting and conducting various OH&S programs and activities related to the OH&S Management System.
  • Conduct OH&S assessments and periodic audits; implementing health and safety strategies and action plans.
  • Continue building a strong safety culture by promoting the philosophy that safety is a value associated with every priority.
  • Co-ordinate training and development program for concrete business unit.
  • Actively support preventative injury initiatives, focusing on SIF’s (Serious Injury or Fatality).
  • Provide Leadership, coaching, teaching, mentoring and coordinate communications of occupational hazards and risks.
  • Coordinate the Health and Safety Management System to meet overall company safety requirements.
  • Assist with the design of standards, programs, and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury.
  • Implement audits and inspections that validate adherence to company policy and laws.
  • Participate in the investigation of serious incidents and injuries.
  • Advise on compliance matters and interact with stakeholders regarding interaction with municipal, provincial, and federal agencies.
  • Implement compliance process related to assessments and surveys.
  • Provide subject matter expertise, develop practical solutions to resolve safety issues.
  • Prepare and maintain internal and external reports.
  • Lead and support Human Performance investigations.
  • Actively participate in the corporate safety network.

Requirements:

  • University degree in an appropriate discipline or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and acquired work experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Health and Safety, preferred in the industry.
  • Possess a Valid Driver’s License (Class G or equivalent).
  • Sound knowledge of OH&S principles, policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Sound knowledge of business operating processes and procedures.
  • Sound working knowledge of provincial legislation and regulations WSIA, OHSA.
  • Knowledge of the rail industry is an asset.
  • Ability to be responsive and persuasive at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, customer focus and sense of urgency.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to coach employees and management through complex issues.
  • Exceptional organization and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a high pace environment.
