Under the direction and supervision of an assigned Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse, the Nursing Extern (Level 1) will provide basic patient care and assist the nursing staff by performing a variety of support duties throughout the Hospital.
Education & Experience
Successful completion of Year 1 of a Bachelor of Science Nursing Degree Program or Year 1 of a Practical Nursing Diploma
Minimum of 1 clinical placement successfully completed, preferred
One year experience in a hospital/healthcare setting in a patient/client care support position, preferred
Position Duties & Responsibilities
Provides direct care to patients within their scope of practice in accordance with the level of education completed as per the educational requirements
Works in compliance with the Health & Safety Act and its regulations in performing duties in a safe manner and follows all health and safety policies, procedures and legislation, including wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), as required
Reports any missing or defective equipment or PPE of which he/she is aware of and which may endanger himself or herself or another worker, to his/her supervisor or management representative
Complies with Infection Control policies and procedures and demonstrates excellent Infection Control practices
Reports any contravention of the act or the regulations, or any hazard of which he/she knows of to his/her immediate supervisor or a management representative
Participates in staff meetings, education and/or training for health and safety as required by Providence Care
Attends scheduled department staff meetings and in-service programs, as required
Performs other related duties, as assigned
