Job Summary: The nurse technologist is responsible for the set up and take down of labs, maintaining inventory of supplies and ensuring equipment is in good working order for student learning. The nurse technologist facilitates in the role of a Registered Nurse, in Year I and II lab classes.

Nature of work:
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Nursing, this position is responsible for the daily functions of the Nursing lab.

Responsibilities/accountabilities:

  • Ensures all equipment is in good working condition, set up and ready for use for learning sessions.
  • Takes down, cleans and stores equipment.
  • Organizes annual maintenance and repairs of all equipment within the lab.
  • Facilitates in year I and II lab classes, including evaluation of student's skill-based performances.
  • Facilitates simulation based education as needed.
  • Manages inventory, researches, orders and completes purchases of supplies and equipment for lab activities.
  • Processes all shared expenses between Durham College and Ontario Tech.
  • Collaborates with Durham College technologist and Simulationist to help determine requirements of shared purchases.
  • Collaborates internally within FHSc labs to coordinate orders.
  • Provides financial reports and forecasts spending to DPO for purchases of new equipment, maintenance, repairs and supplies for lab usage.
  • Organizes practice hours for students: interviewing, hiring, orientating, training, mentoring, scheduling and supervising 5-7 work study students and one supervisor for open practice hours.
  • Collaborates with faculty on content and delivery of labs including case development, and required lab elements.

Required Education:

  • Completion of a university program consisting of four academic years.
  • Minimum requirement of Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Experience:

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience as a Registered Nurse.
