Location: Eastern Zone, Cape Breton Regional Hospital

Type of Employment: Temporary Hourly PT long-assignment (50%) x 1

About the Opportunity

The Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive clinical care to patients in designated service or program areas. The Nurse Practitioner partners with and complements other members of the health care team for the achievement of person and family-centered care. The Nurse Practitioner, as the most responsible healthcare provider (MRHCP), works autonomously to diagnose, order, and interpret laboratory tests, order and interpret reports of diagnostic imaging investigations, prescribe pharmaceuticals, and perform procedures. The Nurse Practitioner works to admit, transfer, accept transfer of and discharge within the legislated scope of practice. The Nurse Practitioner provides direct care (including inpatient care) and partners with other members of the health care team for the achievement of the most appropriate and timely care for patients. Working autonomously or in collaboration with other members of the team, the Nurse Practitioner provides care for and monitors the physical/biologic, psychologic, spiritual needs of patients and integrates these into holistic care plans engaging as appropriate with family, community, and other agencies/services.

Nurse Practitioners are accountable to ensure their practice is consistent with both the Nova Scotia College of Nursing Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners, as well as the Canadian Nurses Association’s Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses. They are responsible for providing safe, competent, compassionate, and ethical care within their legislated scope of practice, educational preparation, and individual competence, and to engage in professional development and educational activities to develop and maintain competence meeting role requirements and care needs.

The Nurse Practitioner ensures that the principles and practices that guide Nova Scotia Health such as the vision, mission, values, expected behaviors, leadership philosophy, organizational health, population health, ethics, safety, quality, partnerships, and interdisciplinary collaboration are integrated within the work they do and through the messages they deliver.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Masters of Nursing – Advanced Nursing Practice stream
  • Registered with the NSCN with active-practicing status, with a license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in Nova Scotia or eligible for registration
  • Successful in the Nurse Practitioner examination
  • CNA Certification in a relevant field would be an asset
  • Current certification in BCLS
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all members of the interdisciplinary team
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and aptitude for progressive, innovative, and creative thinking
  • Adaptable to changing situations and environments
  • Possesses strong leadership and organizational skills and a high degree of judgment and initiative
  • Must have valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

  • Long Assignment, Part-Time Position; 37.5 Hours Bi-weekly
  • To begin as soon as possible, and end January 2026
  • Dates are approximate and subject to change

Compensation and Benefits

$59.46 - $69.52 Hourly
$71.95 with 25 years of NP experience
