Job Information

The Nurse in Charge (NIC) for Regional Home Care Services is responsible for overseeing the coordination, planning, and delivery of community home care services across nine communities in the Dehcho Region, ensuring that services align with NWT Continuing Care Standards, nursing practice guidelines, and NTHSSA policies. The NIC ensures the provision of safe, standardized care to residents by managing a team of nurses, support workers, and activity coordinators, promoting best practices, and supporting staff through education, mentorship, and clinical expertise. This role involves direct client care, ensuring that individual client needs are assessed and met with appropriate resources, staff, and equipment.

The NIC is also responsible for supervising and evaluating the performance of the staff, identifying professional development needs, and ensuring compliance with clinical standards and guidelines set by the NTHSSA and Accreditation Canada. The NIC works under the direction of the Regional Manager, Continuing Care Services, and plays a key role in the NTHSSA’s broader goal of creating an integrated health and social services delivery system. The position requires regular travel across the region to monitor care delivery, conduct assessments, and maintain high standards of service.

Qualifications

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

  1. The successful completion of a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing.
  2. 3 years recent nursing experience with at least 1 year in continuing care.
  3. 1 year supervisory experience.
  4. Valid Driver's License.
