Job description

Driven by a fundamental passion and commitment to the patient experience and enhancing professional practice through the delivery of evidence based care, the successful candidate will be responsible for the identification of learning needs, the planning, implementation, and evaluation of knowledge translation activities that support professional excellence for nursing and other clinical practice disciplines with an emphasis on surgical patients and ambulatory clinics primarily at the St. Catharines Site. Reporting to the Manager Professional Practice & Education, the Nurse Educator will work collaboratively with the Patient Care Managers, Professional Practice team, Program leadership, and other health professionals to develop and promote a best practice environment for the Surgical Services across Niagara Health.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Current registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse Extended Class, in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  2. Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Master's Degree in Nursing, Adult Education, or related field strongly preferred
  3. Minimum 3 years formal clinical education experience in the past 5 years and/or certification in Adult Education with proven ability to achieve education and practice outcomes through programs delivered to individuals and groups
  4. Current certification in BCLS
  5. A minimum of 5 years of surgical RN experience, in an inpatient acute care setting within the last 3 years
  6. Demonstrated proficiency in the practice of surgical nursing care including but not limited to: CVAD and Peripheral IV access, management of epidural catheters, post-operative care, expertise in the use of PN, NG Tubes, chest tubes, blood glucose monitoring, oxygen therapy, pulse oximetry, chest drainage, code blue and other emergency procedures, IV Therapy (initiation), below drip chamber medications, auto transfusion, and safe medication administration practices
  7. Demonstrated proficiency with knowledge transfer, program development and implementation, project and change management, and evaluation skills relative to clinical practice and the practice of education
  8. Knowledge of nursing practice standards as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the applicability to the practice setting
  9. Superior written and oral communication skills
  10. Committed to excellence in all elements of professional practice, including excellence in patient care processes, measuring outcomes, collaboration, and professional growth through education and research utilization
  11. Experience with quality improvement strategies and methodologies
  12. Demonstrated ability to provide effective clinical practice leadership
  13. Superior conflict resolution and organizational skills
  14. Demonstrates ability to work independently and as a member of the Professional Practice team
  15. Demonstrated computer skills in all Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook and a willingness to explore other computer applications to achieve professional practice objectives
  16. Able to balance organizational and program goals and objectives
  17. Demonstrated commitment to continuing education
  18. Demonstrated commitment to the vision, mission and values of Niagara Health
  19. Consistent and regular attendance required
