Job Description

Sinai Health is looking for a Nurse Clinician to support the Women’s and Infants’ Health High Risk Ambulatory program.

As an integral member of the Nursing Professional Practice and Education Team and working in collaboration with the Ambulatory Team, the Nurse Clinician is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of the education programs for the interdisciplinary team in the WIH High Risk Ambulatory Program. The Nurse Clinician coordinates orientation and educational programs for staff and through educational endeavors influences quality patient care, promotes teamwork, and enhances staff development. The Nurse Clinician uses adult learning theory and transformational leadership to facilitate the evaluation of education needs of the staff and in developing and teaching educational programs. The Nurse Clinician supports nursing educational initiatives in alignment with departmental and Mount Sinai goals and objectives.

In this role you will:

  • Develop and maintain standards of nursing practice and management of patient care through the creation of an environment conducive to growth and development of staff, and excellence in nursing/staff practice. Foster the philosophy, goals and standards of the Department of Nursing and other disciplines as required
  • Collaborate in the establishment of goals and objectives for the Women and Infants’ Health Centre of Excellence and/or clinics consistent with the provision of high quality, safe care
  • Provide leadership in promoting and maintaining a positive work environment
  • Maintain competence in all areas of practice; clearly articulate and define own practice and link to research outcomes Promote high quality and innovative education using a multitude of modalities, including simulation, on-line, clinical and classroom environments
  • Evaluate clinical practice and competencies, identify learning needs and support the development of personal learning plans
  • Use best practices, knowledge translation and program planning principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate education initiatives
  • The programmatic development of inpatient and ambulatory clinical areas
  • Quality improvement activities including development, implementation and evaluation of utilization/application of standards, policies and procedures, incident reports and quality audits
  • The development of evaluation strategies to monitor applicable nurse sensitive indicators, and practice changes
  • Relevant unit and nursing department committees such as; huddles, team meetings, unit council etc.
  • Encourage and support continuous learning and professional development Participate in teaching of nursing department and other multidisciplinary team education initiatives
  • Contribute to the development of the nursing profession through active involvement and affiliation with other nursing service organizations, professional associations, and the community at large
  • Assist with staff performance appraisals and performance development/goal setting and provide prompt feedback to RNs and multidisciplinary team when indicated
  • Support and coordinate theorientation ofnew staff, new graduates, and nursingstudents
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required
Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

Mandatory

  • Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Minimum 3 years of recent experience working in Women’s and Infants’ High risk Ambulatory clinic obstetrics
  • Graduate of a CNO-approved bachelor’s degree in nursing program, or equivalent combined education and experience
  • Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution


Preferred

  • Tertiary academic teaching hospital experience
  • Certification in Perinatal Nursing is an asset
  • Membership of RNAO and other professional nursing related organizations


Skills and Knowledge

  • Expertise in adult education principles Demonstrated ability to lead change
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills and effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively and independently under stressful/challenging conditions
  • Ability to use information technology and support staff in its application
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated excellent work performance and attendance history
