Summary
Reporting to the Supervisor, the Nuclear Medicine Technologist 1 performs diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures in accordance with departmental policies. Duties include preparing patients for examination, operating nuclear medicine equipment, monitoring patients during procedures, preparing, dispensing, and administering radiopharmaceuticals. Performs routine quality control tests on imaging equipment, monitors area utilizing appropriate detection devices, and disposes of radioactive substances and contaminated items by following established guidelines.
What You Bring
Education:
- Certification with the CAMRT (Nuclear Medicine).
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification - Basic Life Support (BCLS) level.
- Graduation from an approved nuclear medicine technology diploma program.
- One year recent, related nuclear medicine experience.
Skills & Abilities:
- Working knowledge of Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS).
- Demonstrated knowledge and practice of safe work procedures with nuclear medicine equipment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission Regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to perform radioisotope examinations in compliance with departmental standards.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, coworkers, and other healthcare staff.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and prioritize workload.
- Demonstrated ability in CPR techniques.
- Demonstrated computer skills with current applications.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Your Day to Day:
- Performs a full range of technical work including correlating clinical history with examinations, explaining test procedures, positioning patients, and operating nuclear medicine cameras.
- Performs patient care duties before, during, and after examinations, monitoring patients and responding to emergencies.
- Receives, measures, dispenses, records, and disposes of radioactive materials in compliance with regulations.
- Prepares diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals and performs quality control on preparations.
- Prepares and administers radioactive therapeutic agents according to protocols.
- Conducts in-vivo and in-vitro Nuclear Medicine procedures.
- Observes a safe work environment according to regulations and completes required documentation.
- Maintains current CPR and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) certification.
